Empower Technologies Rolls Out GPS Portable Navigation Devices

Empower Technologies Corporation (“Empower”) (TSX.V: EPT) is pleased to announce the launch of three new portable navigation devices to meet the demands of the dynamic GPS market in North America. The technology was first shown at SEMA automotive aftermarket tradeshow in November of last year.

All three new models feature a large 4.3″ widescreen LCD touch panel:

  • P2000 – the basic model which features navigation, bluetooth hands-free and traffic advisory data
  • P2200 – the photo unit that includes our basic unit’s features, with a built-in camera to take pictures while on a memorable outing
  • P2800 – the executive unit which includes our basic unit’s features, plus a wireless back up camera and iPod remote connectivity to enhance driving safety

Our P2800 model is designed for safety-conscious drivers, enabling drivers to see behind their vehicle when backing up. The menu displayed on the P2800′s large LCD display also makes iPod song selection a breeze.

In an article published on January 14, 2008 in Space.com, entitled “Satellite Navigation Market Continues to Soar Worldwide,” Turner Brinton of Space News writes: “The global market for satellite navigation hardware continued its scorching pace in 2007, resulting in big profits for the major hardware manufacturers, and analysts predict sales will grow more than $20 billion by early next decade.” The article also quotes ABI Research, a market research firm in New York , which estimates that last year’s market for satellite navigation hardware was $33 billion, a $6 billion increase from 2006. By 2011, ABI Research projects global sales of more than 100 million PNDs, 62 million sets of phones equipped with satellite navigation, 14 million manufacturer-installed car systems and 4 million after-market car systems.

“Empower is entering this high growth industry at the most opportune time,” said Paul Leung , CEO of Empower Technologies. “With our technology partners and competitive new portable navigation products, Empower is well positioned to capture a sizeable share of this exciting market.”

All three models are available to OEM/ODM or private-label customers. Empower will also sell the three models under its own “PowerPlay” brand through its consumer sales channels. OEM manufacturers and retailers have already expressed interest in these products. The P2000 will be available for delivery in March. The P2200 and P2800 is slated for delivery in second quarter of this year. The suggested retail prices are: P2000 – $299, P2200 – $399 and P2800 – $499.
