BSQUARE, RMI Team to Support Flash Lite 3 on Alchemy Au1250 Processor

BSQUARE (NASDAQ:BSQR), a leading provider of mobile solutions to the global embedded community, and RMI Corporation(tm), a leading supplier of processor-based solutions for networking, communications, and consumer applications, announced that they will collaborate to support Adobe® Flash Lite(tm) v3 on devices using the RMI Alchemy(tm) Au1250 Media Processor.

BSQUARE has ported Flash Lite v3 to the Au1250 processor and performance-optimized the software for this MIPs-based architectures. OEMs who design the Au1250 processor into multi-function Portable Media Players (mPMPs), personal navigation devices, mobile TV solutions, and other consumer applications can offer customers a compelling Flash-based user interface and the ability to view Flash-enabled content. These OEMs can obtain Flash Lite licenses from BSQUARE, a worldwide authorized distributor of Adobe Flash Lite software.

Adobe Flash Lite is a powerful runtime engine with a small footprint optimized for use in mobile and consumer devices. Flash Lite maintains full compatibility with its desktop counterparts, supporting the same video formats as Adobe’s award-winning Flash® Player. Flash Lite v3 enables OEMs and developers in the embedded, mobile, and portable marketplace to deliver compelling and engaging experiences to mobile users, enabling users to access YouTube, MySpace, and other Flash-dependent sites on their handheld devices.

“By leveraging the Flash ecosystem, RMI will be able to continue offering our customers and developers industry-leading solutions for the portable media player, mobile TV, and personal navigation markets, enabling us to further expand the RMI Alchemy Processor’s market advantage,” said Mike Wodopian, vice president and general manager, Alchemy Solutions at RMI. “BSQUARE is a natural partner for us, since they have supported the Alchemy product line for more than five years and have extensive experience in integrating and licensing Flash technology on embedded platforms.”

“We continue to be impressed with the RMI Alchemy Au1250 processor, which offers a great combination of fast performance, efficient power management, and competitive pricing,” said Raj Khera, Vice-President of Products, BSQUARE. “And now that Flash Lite will be available on the Au1250, both RMI and BSQUARE will be able to address the needs of the growing number of OEMs that require Flash capability on their mobile devices.”

The RMI Alchemy(tm) Processor Family, consisting of the Au1200(tm), the Au1210(tm) and the Au1250(tm) is designed for full-featured personal media players, personal navigation devices, mobile TV solutions, and other consumer applications. The product family is a high-performance, power-optimized processor capable of providing end users with a rich multi-media experience, with full-chip power at less than 450mW. The Alchemy Au1200 Processor family gives system designers an easy-to-use, simple solution for creating full-featured portable solutions with greatly reduced design cycle times. The System-on-a-Chip (SoC) architecture integrates most peripheral components, resulting in a significant reduction in total bill of materials.
