STMicroelectronics Unveils LIS344AL Accelerometer with 3-axis Sensor

STMicroelectronics (NYSE STM), a leading supplier of MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) devices, announced a new solution extending its family of ultra-compact 'low-g' linear accelerometers with a three-axis analog-output sensor. Ideally suited for battery-powered and space-constrained portable devices, such as mobile phones, portable media players, PDAs or remote controls, the LIS344AL is a cost-sensitive MEMS solution in an ultra-compact square footprint operating with low power consumption.

MagnaChip Creates Smart Mobile Luminance Control Algorithm for LCD Driver

NXP Semiconductors Acquires GloNav Inc

NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, announced it will acquire GloNav Inc., a US-based fabless semiconductor company developing single-chip solutions for global positioning systems (GPS) and other satellite navigation systems. NXP will purchase the company for US$85 million in cash plus up to US$25 million in cash contingent upon GloNav reaching certain revenue and product development milestones over the next two years. The transaction will give NXP immediate access to market-proven GPS products and technology. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008, subject to regulatory approvals.

Mentor Graphics Demonstrates Serial ATA IP Solution at SATA IO

Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) announced successful interoperability testing of Mentor's Serial ATA (SATA) Host/Device IP controllers integrated with the SMIC and TSMC SATA PHY IP solutions at the SATA-IO Plugfest #9 in Milpitas, California (Nov 12th-15th 2007). Reaching this milestone allows Mentor to offer a completely integrated, verified, and industry-tested SATA intellectual property (IP) solution for both host and device applications running at either 1.5Gbps or 3.0Gbps speeds while supporting the latest version of the specification.

SEMI Reports November Book-to-Bill Ratio of 0.82

North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.15 billion in orders in November 2007 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.82 according to the November 2007 Book-to-Bill Report published today by SEMI. A book-to-bill of 0.82 means that $82 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month.
