H3C, a wholly-owned subsidiary of 3Com and a leading global end-to-end IP networking solution provider, and Raza Microelectronics®, Inc. (RMI), a worldwide leader in advanced semiconductor solutions for Communications, Networking and Consumer Applications, announced that H3C and RMI® have formed a wide-ranging strategic vendor relationship focusing on the use of RMI’s multi-core, multi-threaded XLR Processor and XLS Processor Families across H3C’s networking, security and wireless applications.
H3C Technologies Co., Limited (H3C), a China-based provider of network infrastructure products, brings forward innovative, cost-effective product development and manufacturing and a strong footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic markets. According to IDC, H3C (formerly known as Huawei-3Com) held over one-third of the Chinese LAN switch market and the powerful 3Com/Huawei combination now contributes to the company’s success in the Ethernet switch market. Initially a joint venture between US-based 3Com and China’s Huawei, called Huawei-3Com Technology, the company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of 3Com when 3Com bought out Huawei’s stake in March 2007.
The initial program in the strategic relationship calls for RMI to provide its XLR Processor, an industry-leading multi-core multi-threaded solution, for the SR series secure router. The SR is H3C’s latest flagship product to feature its innovative Open Application Architecture (OAA) and caters to enterprise networks that are deploying multiple voice, data and video services. As part of the SR Series, the SR6600 is a high-end, multi-services router, integrated with high performance and high throughput features, specifically designed and manufactured for the enterprise market. SR6600 is the first high-end router based on multi-core technology. With its state-of-art hardware platform and service-oriented design, this new product can easily expand to meet ever-increasing multi-services environments and applications requirements.
Based on RMI’s multi-core, multi-thread processors, the data forwarding and service processing engine exhibits a perfect balance between the CPU’s service/applications flexibility and high performance requirements. The SR can also easily adjust to different networking architectures with its full lines of optional modules, which can also adapt to mid- to low-end routers.
“We are happy to be working with RMI. Their dedication and support is as valuable as the capabilities that the XLR and the XLS Processor’s bring to our products,” said Mr. Henry Hso, CTO, H3C. “Our commitment and relationship with RMI goes beyond the traditional vendor-supplier roles and we view RMI as a significant partner in our future success.”
The XLR Processor Family is a cost-effective, single-chip solution providing a key building block for next-generation, scalable multi-service systems. XLR is offered as a complete family of pin-compatible processors spanning performance and bandwidth to enable multiple applications with a single board design. RMI’s XLR Processor Family provides the power of its innovative, multiprocessing, multithreaded architecture based on the simplicity of a leading edge, general purpose MIPS64 processor enabling wire speed, software-driven applications across multiple platforms.
“Being chosen by H3C as their primary supplier for their networking, security and wireless applications, highlights our dominance in the fast-moving Chinese market and cements our hold as the leader in multi-core, multi-threaded processing solutions,” said Lance Smith, vice president and general manager, Scalable Processor Solutions, at RMI. “Working with H3C on these projects is a cornerstone of our current and future success in China and throughout the world and we are extremely proud to be a strategic vendor.”
