Socle Technology Corporation, a leading SoC design services company in Taiwan, announced the availability of a development kit for designers targeting the ARM 9(TM) family processor for the 65-nanometer (nm) low-power (LP) manufacturing process available from Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd.(NASDAQ:CHRT) (SGX:CHARTERED). The kit features a hardened ARM926EJ-S(TM) processor, capable of operating at more than 500MHz, and all the necessary peripheral IP to create a feature-rich high-performance, low-power ARM®technology-based SoC.
The development kit for the Chartered 65nm process extends a long relationship between the two companies that includes similar kits targeting the foundry’s 130nm and 90nm process technologies. The latest solution is a customer-driven core which has been taped out on the most recent 65nm silicon multi-project wafer with projected silicon validation completed by the end of the year.

The Socle 65nm ARM926EJ-S test chip on Chartered’s process was completed using solutions representative of Chartered’s design enablement ecosystem. A high-speed 65nm LP Advantage(TM) standard cell library and a 65nm LP Advantage(TM) SP SRAM compiler from the ARM Artisan® platform; programmable GPIO I/O libraries from Aragio Solutions; and a PLL from True Circuits Inc. were all integrated as part of the test chip. The ARM926EJ-S hardcore is ready to be integrated into customers’ product designs.
The development kit from Socle contains the test chip and an ARM CPU daughter board, as well as an SoC Development Kit which provides industry-standard high-speed controllers such as a DDR controller, a USB2.0 host/device controller and a PCI controller, as well as popular low-speed peripherals such as Watch Dog Timer, Timer, GPIO and I2C, and complete board supporting package (BSP) and drivers for embedded Linux.
