AMI Creates AMIS-49200 Process Automation Transceiver Reference Design

Posted by EDA Geek News Staff in Reference Design on Monday, October 22, 2007

AMI Semiconductor (NASDAQ:AMIS), a leading designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art mixed-signal and digital products for the automotive, medical, industrial and military/aerospace markets, announced a reference design and evaluation kit for the AMIS-49200. The AMIS-49200 Media Attachment Unit (MAU) is part of the AMIS line of processing automation transceivers for use in safety critical applications such as oil refineries, chemical processing and water treatment plants.

Foundation Fieldbus compliant, the AMIS-49200 reference design and evaluation kit provides a physical interface between the bus wiring and the actual measurement device targeting industrial process automation applications, specifically Foundation Fieldbus H1 devices Type 111 and Type 112 per Foundation Fieldbus Specification FF-816 (31.25 kbit/s Physical Layer Profile).

Foundation Fieldbus is an all-digital, two-way communications system intended for use in intrinsically safe sensor-to-computer applications where distribution and transfer of data, integrity of control loops and the ability to integrate dissimilar control systems are essential. Typical applications include closed-loop continuous control, batch sequencing, high-speed process automation, information integration, recipe management, data gathering, legacy system integration, and network integration.

"This design kit provides an easy integration path for implementing the AMIS-49200 MAU, saving our customers time and money," said Paul Pulley, AMIS Process Automation Product Manager. "Reference designs and evaluation kits maximize the efficient use of AMIS transceiver products in a variety of standards-based communications systems for automotive, industrial and other applications."

Pricing and Availability
The AMIS-49200 reference design and evaluation kit will be available in October of 2007. Initial pricing is $225 (US) for each kit.
