Actel IGLOO FPGA Wins Portable Design China Readers Survey Award

Posted by Ken Cheung in FPGAs on Monday, October 8, 2007

Recognized as the lowest power programmable logic solution in the industry, Actel Corporation announced that its 5µW IGLOO(TM) field-programmable gate array (FPGA) family has won a leading product award in the 2007 Portable Design China Reader Survey Awards. Selected in the “Power Consumption” category, IGLOO was chosen among 14 participating products — spanning traditional microcontroller, system-on-chip (SoC) and programmable logic products — as the lowest power solution. The awards were announced this month after a comprehensive survey conducted by Portable Design China.

“Consuming upwards of 200x less static power than competitive FPGA offerings and delivering more than 10x the battery life of the current leading PLDs in portable applications, IGLOO is an industry-changing solution,” said Rich Brossart, vice president of product marketing at Actel. “This recognition by Portable Design China and the portable design engineers in China validates the attractiveness of our low-power, flash-based IGLOO FPGAs for this marketplace.”

For designers of portable applications, Actel recently announced that it has optimized the ARM® Cortex(TM)-M1 processor core for the IGLOO family. The combination of the industry’s lowest power FPGA family, with a pervasive, industry-standard 32-bit ARM processor, now gives designers the ideal, low-power platform for rapidly deploying portable products. Together, Cortex-M1 with IGLOO provides a single-chip solution that reduces cost, power, board space and design complexity.

About IGLOO
The Actel IGLOO family features up to 3,000,000 system gates and builds upon the characteristics of Actel’s successful ProASIC3 flash FPGAs, such as live-at-power-up and secure AES-based in-system programmability. The IGLOO family offers up to 616 user I/Os, six phase-locked loops (PLLs), 504kbits of RAM and 350MHz performance in both commercial and industrial grades.
