ST Rolls Out PoE Interface Controllers for Networked Devices

STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), an industry leader in high-performance analog and mixed-signal products, announced two new families of Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) interface controllers. All devices in the families are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3af specification for powered devices (PD), which provide all the control functions needed to enable a PD to request and draw power from an Ethernet network via a power source. By using these new controllers, designers will be able to eliminate the 110/220V AC power lines to many wired LAN devices such as VoIP (Voice over IP) phones and security cameras. Other applications benefiting from PoE include webcams, wireless LAN (WLAN) access points, point of sale (POS) terminals and RFID readers.

Texas Instruments Introduces Low-Power, Voltage References

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced a family of low-power (5uA), series voltage references featuring high accuracy (+/-0.15 percent max) and low temperature drift (30ppm/C max) in a SC70-3 package – 40 percent smaller than a SOT23. The combination of micro-size packaging and low current consumption make the REF33xx family suitable for portable and battery-powered consumer applications, and its high accuracy and low temperature drift make it a good choice for medical equipment, handheld instrumentation, test equipment and data acquisition systems.

Emerson Acquires Embedded Communications Computing Business from Motorola

Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced that the two companies have entered into a definitive agreement under which Emerson will acquire Motorola’s Embedded Communications Computing (ECC) business for $350 million in cash. Motorola’s ECC business, which had 2006 revenue of approximately $520 million, will strengthen Emerson’s position in the $6 billion-and-growing merchant embedded computing industry. Upon completion of the transaction, Motorola’s ECC business will become part of Emerson Network Power. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the calendar year and is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Thales Signs Contract with Telelogic

Telelogic (STO:TLOG) announced that it has signed a 4 year strategic, 10 million Euro agreement with Thales for the provision of licenses and maintenance. The agreement with Thales globally includes new license and maintenance on their existing investment for; Telelogic DOORS(R) for requirements definition, analysis and management, Telelogic Rhapsody(R) for Model Driven Development of Embedded Systems and System Architect for enterprise architecture and business process modeling. Included in the deal is the maintenance extension for Telelogic Logiscope for static code quality analysis.

Wipro Acquires OKI’s Wireless Unit, to Establish Development Center

Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6703) and Wipro Technologies, the global IT services arm of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT) announced their strategic partnership in the area of design services for the semiconductor market. As part of this partnership, Wipro has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Oki Techno Centre Singapore Pte. Ltd.(OTCS) including its own Intellectual Property Rights in an all cash deal over a period of one year. Wipro will also establish a dedicated Development Centre for OKI.
