MontaVista Software, Inc., the leading provider of Linux(R) for intelligent devices and communications infrastructure, announced the availability of MontaVista(R) Linux Professional Edition 5.0 for use on the AMCC Power Architecture 440EPx processor. Professional Edition 5.0, the leading commercial embedded Linux platform, delivers the first real-time Linux solution available for the 440EPx.
The 440EPx embedded processor features low power dissipation and a small footprint, and is ideally suited for a number of high-performance applications including imaging, industrial control, and networking. Design teams and developers looking to build products with 440EPx processors will now be able to take advantage of the real-time application performance, rich functionality, and reliability of MontaVista Linux. MontaVista Professional Edition 5.0 is ideally suited to complement the 440EPx with integrated tools and a quality assured run time that allows customized solutions, rapidly improving time to market. Unlike freely-available source code, MontaVista Linux is productized, has been tested by MontaVista’s testing facilities, and is backed by MontaVista’s PhD-level support.
“The 440EPx allows users to take advantage of all of the capabilities of Professional Edition 5.0, which is a proven real-time Linux solution,” stated Joerg Bertholdt, MontaVista’s Director of Marketing, Embedded Platform. “The platform minimizes risk for organizations wishing to migrate from proprietary operating systems to open source Linux by providing a fast, stable environment where design teams can focus on adding value to their real-time applications instead of worrying about the performance requirements of their operating systems.”
MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 will enable design teams to fully leverage the high-performance capabilities of the AMCC 440EPx processor. MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 is the most widely-deployed commercial Linux development platform available for embedded devices. Developers can speed development and take advantage of the advanced capabilities of the 440EPx processor with the following features of MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0:
- The flexibility, functionality, and reliability of productized Linux optimized for performance in embedded devices
- Simplified migration from proprietary real-time operating system platforms
- A smaller software footprint and advanced power management capabilities
- Powerful Dev Rocket 5.0 development tools
“MontaVista’s Linux offering strengthens AMCC’s commitment to meeting the needs of the developer community. We have seen a strong customer demand for Linux in 440EPx designs, and we are delighted to see support available from MontaVista. In addition, many 440EPx designs require real-time behavior, and MontaVista provides Linux with real-time performance capabilities that are a good fit for these applications,” said Charlie Ashton, Director of Software of AMCC.
MontaVista(R) Linux Professional Edition 5.0 is available now for developers and design teams.
