Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), the world’s leading supplier of programmable logic solutions, announced it has won two prestigious awards from China’s Electronic Engineering & Product World (EEPW) magazine at an awards ceremony held Thursday at the 7th China Embedded System and Singlechip Academic Communications & International Product Exhibition at Peking University.
Xilinx(R) Spartan(TM)-3A DSP platform of low-cost FPGAs, optimized for DSP applications, won the 2007 China Influential Embedded System New Technology Award. Nominations were submitted by a committee of over 20 industry experts and online votes were cast by thousands of design engineers throughout China over the course of 50 days. More than 100 other products were submitted for nomination by more than 50 semiconductor vendors.
Xilinx was further recognized for ranking among the top news stories in EEPW’s Top 10 China Influential Embedded System News category for its rollout of 65nm devices. The company led the industry with the delivery of its Virtex(TM)-5 FPGAs starting in May 2006, some 15 months ahead of other FPGA vendors’ 65nm devices.
“EEPW’s editorial committee evaluated products based on their innovation, technological advancement and impact on the market,” said chief editor of EEPW Wang Ying. “Applications that rely on signal processing continue to demand high performance at lower costs. The Spartan-3A DSP platform is uniquely positioned to meet these requirements, given its ability to deliver high levels of DSP performance at a low cost.”
“These awards reaffirm our success in expanding FPGAs into the DSP market segment through our XtremeDSP initiative, as well as our technology leadership in delivering 65nm products to customers,” said Hing Nan Cheng, Xilinx marketing director for Asia Pacific. “It also reaffirms that Xilinx is smoothly evolving from a device provider to a solution provider, and acknowledges our long-term commitment to customers and partners in China.”
XtremeDSP Solutions for Low Cost Applications
The Spartan-3A DSP platform delivers the industry’s only low-cost FPGA with dedicated DSP circuitry for optimizing the performance of DSP applications. As part of the XtremeDSP portfolio of solutions, the Spartan-3A DSP platform complements the higher performance processing of the Virtex DSP platform with the Virtex-4 SX and Virtex-5 SXT platforms.
Offering 20 GMACs for under $30, the Spartan-3A DSP platform is unique in its ability to enable a wide range of low cost, data intensive applications including wireless, video surveillance, personal, medical, and consumer applications. The Spartan-3A DSP platform’s DSP48A slice is a cost-optimized version of the DSP48 slice embedded in Virtex-4 SX devices that delivers high performance and efficient silicon utilization with greater power efficiency. This DSP48A slice enables designers to implement many independent arithmetic functions.
First FPGAs to Deliver Benefits of 65nm
Xilinx high-performance Virtex-5 FPGAs were the industry’s first programmable logic devices built on 65nm to ship to customers. Through key design innovations in process technology, architecture and product development methodology, Virtex-5 FPGAs provide customers with unprecedented performance and density — at speeds on average 30 percent higher and 65 percent increased capacity over previous generation — while reducing dynamic power consumption by 35 percent, maintaining the same low static power and consuming 45 percent less area.
EEPW is a joint venture between IDG and ISTIC (Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China) and is one of the most prestigious and widely- read Chinese electronic trade publications, covering industry issues and news, embedded systems, components, power supply, wireless, consumer electronics, test and measurement and electronic design automation (EDA).
Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) is the worldwide leader of programmable logic solutions.
