MontaVista(R) Software, Inc., the leading provider of Linux(R) for intelligent devices and communications infrastructure, announced that the company is partnering with chip maker AMCC to provide design teams and developers planning projects on Power Architecture platforms with the ability to leverage the real-time capabilities, small memory footprint, high-performance development tools, and PhD-quality support of MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0. This partnership extends the close relationship between the two companies, which have already delivered 21 MontaVista Linux support packages for AMCC platforms.
MontaVista’s powerful development tools, designed specifically for embedded Linux development, improve developer productivity and time to market for applications built for AMCC processors. The close collaboration between MontaVista and AMCC will provide current and future customers with unparalleled hardware/software integration plus MontaVista real-time Linux capabilities to address the needs for time-critical applications targeted by the Power Architecture processor family. Additionally, MontaVista support for reduced memory footprint Linux addresses the needs of high-volume, cost-sensitive applications run on AMCC chipsets. MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 is the industry’s most widely deployed commercial Linux platform and embedded Linux development tools.
“As the embedded industry continues the rapid transition to Linux, our customers need greater flexibility and faster time to market for their embedded applications. By engaging with AMCC on these future roadmap products, MontaVista is demonstrating our commitment to provide the maximum benefit to our combined customer base,” stated Joerg Bertholdt, Director of Marketing, Embedded Platform, MontaVista.
MontaVista will provide MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 support for AMCC’s PPC405EX and PPC460EX processors. Professional Edition 5.0 for the AMCC PPC405EX embedded processor is ideally suited for the next generation WLAN applications requiring exceptional performance, a small footprint and low power. MontaVista enables developers to utilize the full capabilities of the PPC460EX, which is ideally suited to a wide range of high-performance applications, including printing, imaging and networking.
“AMCC values the developer community and understands the needs of design teams. MontaVista’s real-time Linux capabilities allow our customers to address the need for time-critical applications targeted by the PPC405EX and PPC460EX processors, including wireless LAN and printing/imaging applications,” said Charlie Ashton, Director of Software at AMCC.
“MontaVista’s Linux offering combined with MontaVista’s powerful real-time capabilities and development tools have enabled us to provide a complete IPSec security solution that takes full advantage of the capabilities built into AMCC’s chipsets using our security cores,” said Simon Blake-Wilson, managing director of Embedded Security Solutions at SafeNet. “This joint solution allows us to simultaneously improve developer productivity and speed time-to-market, putting us ahead of our competitors.”
MontaVista and AMCC plan to announce additional solutions for Power Architecture processors in the coming weeks. AMCC and MontaVista will showcase their partnership at the upcoming Vision 2007 Embedded Linux Developers Conference, October 8-10 in Santa Clara, California.
