CSR (LSE:CSR), announced that its UniFi-1 Portable for WiFi and BlueCore4-ROM for Bluetooth technologies have been selected by a leading maker of GPS devices, Mio Technology Limited for the new feature-rich Mio DigiWalker A702 quad band GPS PDA Phone. CSR’s Bluetooth and WiFi technologies deliver the best in terms of power, size and coexistence. CSR’s intelligent RF design ensures trouble-free WiFi, Bluetooth and GSM/GPRS coexistence, and has also enabled Mio’s fully-featured GPS PDA Phone to offer a standby time of over 200hours. In recognition of its high quality and diverse functionality, the Mio A702 was recently awarded China’s IF (International Forum) design prize.
CSR’s UniFi1-Portable supports IEEE802.11b/g and, with a standby current of <10 mW, is designed specifically for embedding in power conscious applications such as mobile handsets. By using both WiFi and Bluetooth silicon from CSR, Mio Technology has access to the industry’s best coexistence. UniFi’s industry-leading coexistence is a result of a combination of time division multiplexing and other CSR proprietary measures that ensure that synchronous Bluetooth packets do not cause interference with the WiFi transmission.
Mio Technology chose to incorporate CSR’s BlueCore4-ROM hardware plus BlueCore Host Software, which presents a complete and fully-integrated Bluetooth hardware and software solution for the fastest time to market and lowest cost. For Mio’s Windows Mobile PDA phone, CSR incorporated Microsoft-OPP (Object Push Profile) for document or file transfer; plus CSR’s Windows Profile Pack for Windows CE.
The Mio’s A702 incorporates a 3.2Megapixel autofocus camera with flash, and Windows Mobile 6 functionality. CSR’s UniFi for WiFi provides a wireless link to internet access points whilst CSR’s BlueCore for Bluetooth provides connectivity to transfer image files or documents to a PC, or to connect Bluetooth headsets or handsfree kits. This additional wireless connectivity options made possible via embedded CSR wireless technology makes the Mio’s handset one of the most advanced PDA phone on the market.
CSR’s Senior Vice President of Mobile Handset Connectivity Business Unit, Matthew Philips, commented, “Mio DigiWalker A702 is the perfect environment for combining CSR’s UniFi and BlueCore technologies. Users of the handset will be able to simultaneously speak on a Bluetooth headset whilst accessing the internet on a WiFi connection to make full use of the Mio’s Windows Mobile 6 software.” Philips continued, “CSR’s industry-leading power and coexistence means users will enjoy continuous interference-free operation.”
