eSOL, Ittiam Team on Codec Solutions for TI DaVinci Processors

eSOL announced the strategic partnership with Ittiam Systems to provide a single multimedia solution for developers using Texas Instruments’ (TI) digital media processors based on DaVinci(TM) technology. Through this partnership, Ittiam will transform its award-winning codec algorithms to seamlessly work with eSOL’s PrKERNELv4 real-time operating system (RTOS), enabling eSOL to offer its RTOS with Ittiam’s video and audio capabilities in the same package.

Both eSOL and Ittiam are TI Authorized Software Providers (ASPs), which means they offer direct customer support for TI Digital Media Software and have a proven track record in digital media product designs.

The ASP designation means that eSOL and Ittiam will assist any TI customer worldwide in complete software implementation and development of portable media players, IP videophones, IP set-top boxes, video surveillance systems, and much more.

In the last decade, eSOL has licensed its RTOS to a number of top-tier original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) throughout the world, with a very strong focus on TI’s imaging and audio processors. More recently, eSOL embraced TI’s digital video applications, a new market where more customers are seeking alternative ways to optimize overall system performance.

“In particular, we have seen overwhelming customer demand for high-performance codecs on a more compact and robust RTOS, and we know how much value eSOL and Ittiam can bring together to meet this demand,” said Bob Ueyama, Executive Vice President, Embedded Products Division at eSOL Co., Ltd.

Through this partnership, the planned codec offering includes: H.264 Main Profile (MP) encode, WMV9 MP encode, MPEG-2 encode, MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile encode/decode, DivX decode and MP3 encode.

“I am very excited about this new Ittiam partnership as the addition of these codecs will add significant value to eSOL’s total solution offering,” said Ueyama. “The Ittiam codecs will help developers balance complexity and performance efficiency, while providing the necessary flexibility to optimize and enhance video applications.”

“Ittiam and eSOL are very committed to providing a turnkey solution to TI’s DaVinci technology,” added Ueyama.

“Combining eSOL’s market leading PrKERNELv4 RTOS with Ittiam’s market leading AV codecs on TI DSPs will enable our AV appliance customers to hit the market in the shortest possible time with optimum Audio-Video and system performance. Ittiam Systems are very pleased to have secured a strategic partnership with eSOL, a leading RTOS company, and this partnership adds the essential and complementary OS layer to Ittiam’s portfolio of products. We are looking forward to a hugely successful partnership for the benefit of our customers’ products and time to market,” commented Vikram Bose, Ittiam Vice President of Sales, Asia and Japan.
