DisplayLink Enters Embedded Display Market with Display Solution

DisplayLink announced a technology and marketing partnership with Display Solution (Gilching, Germany) to embed DisplayLink technology into OEM display solutions for industrial, medical, carrier, and other embedded display customers. Under the new partnership, Display Solution will function as a DisplayLink sales distributor in the European market with a focus on industrial and embedded displays. The company will sell DisplayLink products and will use them as part of its own developed controller board solutions for use in digital signage, point-of-sale, multimedia, automation, gaming, measurement engineering, medical technology, and other embedded technology areas. In addition, Display Solution will be a DisplayLink design center that supports customers with the integration of DisplayLink ASICs.

“The European market is rich in industrial applications that can benefit from multiple displays connected to one computer, however until the DisplayLink technology, the industry had not seen a solution with enough performance and cost-effectiveness to take hold,” said Norbert Feuchtgruber, CEO of Display Solution. “With our strong reputation and experience in the industrial display market we are confident we can attract wide interest using this technology.”

“While DisplayLink has been focused on PC markets up to now, our technology delivers excellent performance for rich media content over USB and we see a lot of opportunities for this capability in embedded and industrial markets,” said Dennis Crespo, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for DisplayLink. “Working with Display Solution is the beginning of our strategy to expand the market opportunities for this technology, and enables us to respond to the flood of inquiries we have recently received from European industrial display companies.”

DisplayLink’s solution is comprised of the Virtual Graphics Card software for Windows computers and the DL-120 or DL-160 high-performance network display chips. The combination delivers high-quality, fully interactive 32-bit true-color graphics with real-time video playback across a USB link. The technology is currently in use by major monitor OEMs, PC peripherals manufacturers and others for use in LCD monitors, notebook docking stations, and USB graphics adaptors.
