Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), the world’s leading provider of programmable logic solutions, announced that intoPIX, a leading provider of JPEG2000 solutions, will port its wide intellectual property (IP) portfolio to Xilinx(R) Virtex(TM)-5 high-performance platform FPGAs. Additional information on the first successful implementation, a JPEG2000 encoder and codec is available to IBC attendees, intoPIX Stand 9.520, RAI Congress Centre, Amsterdam.
The intoPIX JPEG2000 encoding algorithm running on a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA, allows encoding at up to 120 frames-per-second (fps), over 20 percent faster than previous solutions. This creates the potential to create a multi-stream encoder delivering up to four channels of HD-SDI image management at 30 fps. Xilinx Virtex-5 devices support all relevant video interfaces including HD-SDI and ASI, while offering built-in PCI Express(R) endpoint and Gigabit Ethernet blocks, ideal for addressing the challenging bandwidth, power and cost targets of the broadcast industry. The intoPIX implementation of a JPEG2000 encoder and codec on a single Virtex-5 FPGA still leaves available logic for additional functionality. This can be designed by the customer, or selected from the Xilinx or intoPIX IP portfolios.
