In the presence of Quebec’s Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Mr. Raymond Bachand and Vice-Minister responsible for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Shang Yong, Wavesat, headquartered in Montreal, Canada and ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, agreed to conduct WiMAX interoperability tests and to support R&D activities with the École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) in Montreal and the Shanghai Research Center for Wireless Communications (WiCo). This partnership has been created through the Prompt-Québec industry-university research consortium.
Wavesat and ZTE are collaborating to accelerate interoperability testing of Mobile WiMAX solutions based on IEEE 802.16e standard and in compliance with WiMAX Forum interoperability profiles. The two companies are jointly conducting interoperability between ZTE base stations and end-user terminal equipment such as PC plug-in cards and handsets Powered by Wavesat mobile WiMAX chipset.
Wavesat and ZTE Corporation will also jointly support collaborative research and development projects with ÉTS, WiCo and Prompt-Québec. This R&D activity will deal with the development of future evolution of the WiMax wireless communication standards. These projects will leverage the joint China-Quebec call for research proposals announced by the MOST and the Government of Quebec on May 29th, 2007.
