Agilent Unveils First Oscilloscope-Based DDR3 Compliance Software

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced the industry’s first oscilloscope-based DDR3 compliance test application. This tool is ideal for engineers working in the computer, data storage, electronic data processing and consumer electronics industries. The Agilent U7231A DDR3 test application, which runs on Infiniium 54850 and 80000 Series oscilloscopes, provides DDR3 compliance measurements based on the Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) JESD79-3 DDR3 SDRAM Specifications. It covers clock, electrical and timing parameters.

EVE to Present Paper at Power Architecture Developer Conference

EVE and Power.org(TM) announced that EVE was selected to present a technical paper at the Power Architecture(TM) Developer Conference to be held in Austin, Texas, September 24-25. EVE will deliver a session entitled, “New Verification Methods for Power-Based SoC Designs,” that will explore system-on-chip (SoC) verification.

Broadcom Announces First 65 Nanometer Gigabit Ethernet Switches

Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, announced the availability of the industry’s first Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switches produced in 65 nanometer (65nm) CMOS process technology. Broadcom leveraged its advanced 65nm intellectual property (IP) portfolio to develop the StrataXGS(R) 200 series, a new generation of intelligent GbE switches that will accelerate the deployment of secure unified communications infrastructures. An unprecedented level of integration is achieved using 65nm process technology, which enables lower-power silicon solutions that can reduce overall system costs in applications for local area networks (LAN), service providers and data centers. Today’s announcement extends Broadcom’s leadership in the networking silicon market, where it currently holds 70 percent market share in merchant silicon for GbE switch integrated circuits (ICs)(1).

LEGO Group Licenses Moore Microprocessor Patent

Alliacense announced that the LEGO Group has purchased a Moore Microprocessor Patent(TM) (MMP) Portfolio license from The TPL Group. Marking its 75th year in business this month, LEGO has emerged as the world’s sixth largest manufacturer of toys.

NetLogic Acquires Network Search Engine Assets from Cypress

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY), a leader in programmable solutions, and NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors, announced that they have signed and closed a definitive agreement whereby NetLogic Microsystems has acquired certain assets associated with Cypress’s network search engine products targeting the high-volume desktop switching market. Upon closing, NetLogic Microsystems paid Cypress $12.0 million in cash plus the cost of inventory.

VDC Sees Restrictions for Standalone Software Development Tools

Recently published research by Venture Development Corporation (VDC) indicates that the revenue growth of the market for unbundled software development tools continues to be inhibited as developers have an increasing number of integrated offering choices from vendors participating in adjacent markets. VDC defines unbundled (or standalone) software development tools as compilers, debuggers, editors, IDEs, and other related tools sold separately from an operating system or other products.

PDSi, AMD Develop Embedded Reference Design Kit
