Empower Debuts LEOs Development Kit for TI DaVinci Dual-Core Embedded CPU

Empower Technologies (TSX.V: EPT) is pleased to announce the launch of the latest LEOs Development Kit for Texas Instruments’ (TI) DM6446 “DaVinci(TM) Technology” dual-core embedded CPU – LDK6446. DM6446 is a DaVinci(TM) Processor which forms part of TI’s DaVinci(TM) Technology ecosystem. The technology includes the following elements: DaVinci Software, DaVinci Development Tools/Kits, and DaVinci Support. This is the first time Empower launched a new embedded CPU platform for LEOs operating software since August 2005 when it first announced the introduction of its LDK591x – LEOs Development Kit for TI’s OMAP591x embedded CPU platform.

The new LDK6446 development kit comes with the latest LEOs operating software and SDK (Software Development Kit). The target hardware development platform includes a DM6446 evaluation board and a 4.3″ WQVGA LCD (480×270) touch panel in landscape mode, ready for 16:9 widescreen movie presentation. LDK6446 is the world’s first DM6446 development kit available with LCD touch panel support. TI’s DM644x (DaVinci(TM) Processor) dual-core embedded CPU family currently has three models – DM6441, DM6443, and DM6446. LDK6446 is the first in the series released by Empower. LDK6441 and LDK6443 are slated for release later this fall. The Digital Media Tablet (DMT) reference design, using LEOs for TI’s DM6441, is on track to completion by December this year.

LDK644x and LEOs for DM644x product family are made specifically for media devices in the mobile, set-top-box, and telematic applications. The video processing power enabled by the TMS320C64x+ DSP onboard in the DM644x is the most powerful feature of this new development platform. It provides major technical advantages in video/audio encoding/decoding, video analytic, and sound processing. Those technical advantages can be applied in the fields of security surveillance, wired/wireless media streaming, infotainment system in automobiles, portable navigation, and video telephony.

LDK6446 full development kit is sold at Empower’s online store for $1,800 US, plus shipping & handling. Also available for purchase is the 4.3″ WQVGA LCD (480×270) touch panel module in the LDK6446 bundled with the LEOs for TI’s DM6446 operating software CD for $950 US, plus shipping & handling, which can be used either with TI’s DM6446 Digital Video Evaluation Module (DVEVM) or with Spectrum Digital’s DM6446 Evaluation Module (EVM).
