RMI(R), a leading supplier of processors for communications and consumer applications, announced Wind River’s support for its XLR and XLS Processor families, a series of multi-core, multi-threaded general purpose processors for communications, networking, wireless and security applications. Wind River is currently supporting RMI’s Scalable Processor Solutions (XLR Processor(TM) and XLS Processor(TM)) in the Wind River(R) Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition 1.4 and VxWorks(R) 5.x products.
RMI’s Scalable Processor Solutions (SPS) are multi-core and multi-threaded processors providing a rich set of features and performance to address the wide variety of integrated next generation applications, including integrated security, Web services, virtualized storage, load balancing, server offload and intelligent routing and switching systems. The XLR 700 and XLR 500 series processors are software and hardware compatible and each processor is available in a variety of power options including standard, low and ultra low power. The XLS Processors(TM) are cost-effective devices for embedded communications and networking, SMB and client-oriented solutions. These solutions include integrated security, access points, routers and switch products. Each device within its series is software and hardware compatible, and the XLS 600, 400, and 200 series processors are software compatible.
Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition is based on a highly productive, cross development infrastructure and has support for popular telecom boards and Carrier Grade Linux (CGL). Customers can leverage CGL functionality for standards-based ATCA and MicroTCA designs. The platform is well suited for developing control and management system software in 3G wireless infrastructure systems and IMS, WiMAX elements, fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) elements, soft switches, media gateways, and multi-service switches.
“The collaboration between RMI and Wind River is very valuable and is a strong testament to the strength of our solutions and the adoption of the XLR and XLS Processors by our customers,” said Lance Smith, vice president and general manager, Scalable Processor Solutions, RMI. “This collaboration will help drive future implementations of our products and continue validating our core competencies of high performance and feature-rich capabilities.”
Wind River platform solutions tightly integrate an Eclipse-based, end-to-end, integrated development suite with a choice of Linux or VxWorks operating systems, a rich set of middleware run-time technologies, worldwide customer support, and professional training to enhance your team’s capabilities. Wind River platforms can reduce effort, cost, and risk, as well as optimize quality and reliability at all phases of the device software development process, from concept to deployed product.
“By extending Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition to support RMI’s XLR and XLS processors, we are offering customers a wholly integrated multi-core networking development option that will speed their time to market,” said Vincent Rerolle, vice president of corporate development and strategy, Wind River.
RMI’s products push the edge of processor technology in performance and integration and are used by system and original equipment manufacturers to quickly respond to changing market needs. The company’s XLR Processor(TM), XLS Processor(TM), Orion(TM) Processor and Alchemy Processor(TM) families are complex, highly integrated designs, incorporating hundreds of millions of transistors and are built on leading-edge silicon process technologies.
