TI Offers Crosspoint Switches with 4.25 Gbps Data Rate Support

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced two new crosspoint switches supporting data rates up to 4.25Gbps. The four-by-four and two-by-two switches provide an exceptional combination of high speed, low power and low jitter performance for applications such as XAUI signal buffering/muxing, backplane redundancy and high-speed network routing in end equipment such as wireless base stations and IP network routers.

The SN65LVCP404 and SN65LVCP402’s ability to function as either a crosspoint switch or buffer will give designers the flexibility to use the devices in a wide variety of applications in the mass market. Other key benefits include:

  • Receive equalization (Rx EQ) and transmit pre-emphasis improve signal integrity and enable longer transmission distances
  • Impendent pre-emphasis control allows designers to tune outputs according to different trace or cable lengths
  • Low power at 600 mW lets the designer achieve tighter device packing for higher port densities
  • External control of Vbb enables interfacing with different input/output types
  • Superior jitter performance (30 picoseconds) at 4.25 Gbps helps the designer meet the jitter budget

The addition of the SN65LVCP404 and SN65LVCP402 crosspoint switches complement TI’s broad interface product offering including families of products for M-LVDS, LVDS, PECL, RS-485, PCI-Express, gigabit Ethernet serializer/deserializers and additional crosspoint switches.

TI also offers a complete portfolio of single — and multi-core communications infrastructure optimized digital signal processors (DSP). These DSPs support multiple air interface standards and a range of base station form factors as well as a variety of core networking applications including transcoding and media gateways on a single chip. Coupled with targeted software libraries and third party reference designs, TI offers the most robust line of products for the communications infrastructure market.

Availability and Packaging
The SN65LVCP404 (4×4) and SN65LVCP402 (2×2) are available now in 48-pin and 24-pin quad flat no lead (QFN) lead-free packages and are priced at $9.85 and $6.65, respectively, each in 1,000-piece quantities.

TI offers analog engineers a wide-ranging support infrastructure that includes training and seminars, design tools and utilities, technical documentation, evaluation modules, an online KnowledgeBase, a product information hotline and a comprehensive offering of samples.
