Mercury Computer Systems Introduces OpenRTRT, DirectViz, Patchwork3D

Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY) announced three new offerings that provide whole power, real-time interactive and photo-realistic 3D rendering, and real-time 3D ray tracing.

Aimed at existing 3D application developers, OpenRTRT(TM) is a state-of-the-art SDK (software development kit) that delivers real-time ray tracing capabilities. Ray tracing is a 3D rendering technique based on complex mathematical algorithms that is used to produce realistic images. It traces the path taken by a ray of light through a scene, and calculates reflection, refraction, or absorption of the ray whenever it intersects the scene. OpenRTRT offers an easy-to-use application programming interface that provides an alternative to the OpenGL(R) rendering engine by delivering photorealistic renderings at interactive rates. Enabling real-time accurate reflections, refractions and fine shadow details, OpenRTRT delivers linear scalability through distribution on a cluster configuration, and takes full advantage of multiprocessor/multicore architectures.

For 3D graphics application publishers, DirectViz(TM) delivers the whole power of the OpenRTRT technology within the de facto standard framework for 3D application development. DirectViz is an extension to Version 6 of Open Inventor(TM) by Mercury Computer Systems, the object-oriented, cross-platform 3D graphics software suite that offers more than 1,200 ready-to-use classes integrated in a user-friendly framework for rapid development. With this offering, Mercury proposes the first hybrid high-level 3D graphics application development framework, and addresses the escalating needs currently out of reach by graphics processors and OpenGL, in styling and conceptual design, virtual prototyping, and visual simulation.

For end users that need a desktop application offering the entire workflow for project review in industrial design, Mercury introduced Patchwork3D, by Lumiscaphe, an emerging developer of innovative products in the field of aspect digital mockup and photo-realistic 3D real-time rendering. Patchwork3D is a comprehensive software workshop for interactive 3D digital design. Built around an award-winning real-time realistic rendering engine, Patchwork3D offers a complete software suite to import CAD models, apply textures and lighting, and perform interactive realistic viewing. With real-time rendering and realistic simulation of materials and lightings, Patchwork3D allows industrial designers to communicate as early as the design stage begins, delivering very high-quality digital mock-ups to validate product impact before manufacturing. Patchwork3D provides to communications and sales people a straightforward solution to market industrial products.

“Photo-realistic visualization in real time is now a reality,” said Jean-Bernard Cazeaux, Vice President of the Visualization Sciences Group at Mercury Computer Systems. “By delivering this advanced technology through a complete product portfolio, Mercury Computer Systems addresses all levels of market and end user requirements for existing 3D applications and next-generation graphics software.”

“Lumiscaphe is extremely glad to enter into this worldwide partnership with Mercury Computer Systems,” added Jean-Christophe Leducq, CEO and founder of Lumiscaphe, SA. “Our know-how of interactive photorealistic rendering technologies, combined with Mercury’s experience and the comprehensive product line, brings to the worldwide market an innovative solution that addresses end users’ most demanding challenges.”
