Gleichmann Announces NEC's 32-bit V850E/IF3, V850E/IG3 MCUs

NEC Electronics’ (distribution: Gleichmann Electronics) two new 3-phase control device families, V850E/IF3 and V850E/IG3, open up all kinds of new application possibilities. Key features of these devices, based on the 32-bit V850E1 core, include two integrated 16-bit 3-phase timers with 6-phase PWM output function. These allow controlling two 3-phase motors simultaneously and independently. These devices also incorporate other key features for optimized motor control, such as dead time generation and direct shut down for power transistor protection. The PWM frequency is freely selectable; the duty-cycle adjustable between 0% and 100%. The pwm-registers are written via an additional series buffer register. A reduction in CPU load is achieved by means of intelligent interrupt management respectively interrupt filtering. Power factor correction (PFC) is easily implemented with additional timers.

NEC's 32-bit V850E/IG3 3-phase motor controllerThe V850E/IF3 and V850E/IG3 high-performance MCUs, built in the very latest 0.15 µm UX4 flash process, allow maximum processing power of 86 MIPS under 64 MHz operation. Depending on the type of device, either 128 KB flash memory with 8 KB RAM or 256 KB flash memory with 12 KB RAM are available.

There are also three A/D converters on board: two separate high-speed 12-bit A/D converters with 3 – 5 channels and simultaneous sample and hold function as well as an additional 8-channel 10-bit A/D converter. The 12-bit A/D converters also include 3 analog op-amps and 6 comparators. For an accurate time-relation, the A/D converters can be phase-synchronous triggered via the 3-phase timer.

Also included on-chip are: a DMA controller, a multiple serial interface, user configurable FIFO UART, CSI and I2C interfaces plus watchdog timer, clock monitor, reset logic for the supply voltage and low voltage interrupt.

The V850E/IF3 family is available in an 80-pin LQFP package and the V850E/IG3 family comes in a 100-pin LQFP package, both operating from 4.5 to 5.5 V and -40 to +85° C.

The ability to control multiple motors from a single device, as well as removing the need for external sensors, analog components and safety IC’s, contribute to significantly reducing overall system cost.
