Telinnovation Echo Canceller Boosts Voice Quality

Ratcheting voice quality one notch higher, Texas Instruments, Incorporated (TI) [NYSE:TXN] has deployed its Telinnovation(TM) echo canceller software across several digital signal processor (DSP) platforms including the carrier infrastructure optimized TNETV3020, as well as TMS320C64x(TM)- and TMS320C64x+(TM) -based devices. As the most widely-deployed echo canceller solution in the industry, delivering over 1 billion calls per day, the Telinnovation echo canceller has been improving voice quality in the most challenging voice environments for over 20 years.

The echo canceller is G.168-2004 compliant and has been certified for use across carrier, enterprise and wireless networks. It is available as either a callable function which is integrated into an OEM’s framework, or as a standalone DSP image of executable code. The echo canceller is available as a function for the TMS320C64x- and TMS320C64x+- based devices and will also be available as an image for the TNETV3020 processor.

The TNETV3020 image version of the echo canceller supports 672 channels of line echo cancellation including Voice Quality Enhancements (VQE) and Tandem Free Operation (TFO). Even higher echo cancellation channel densities can be supported for specific customer applications. This configuration also includes the TI Echo Quality Index (EQI), which provides a measure of the propensity for echo on any given channel and is derived from TI’s award wining PIQUA(TM) software. In addition, TI also plans to support 192ms echo tails and operation in an all-Internet Protocol (IP) environment. Configurations supporting Internal Time Division Multiplexing (iTDM) and Circuit Emulation Service over Internet Protocol (CESoIP) are also envisioned. These interfaces allow traditional Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) traffic to flow in an IP environment.

“With its exceptional performance and 20-year deployment history, we believe the Telinnovation echo canceller software is truly an industry leader,” said Chuba Odokwu, Vice President of Engineering from Sonus Networks. “Incorporating such an exceptional echo canceller into our products enables our telecommunications customers to fully reap the benefits of the IP network.”

The TNETV3020 is a 6-core 3GHz carrier infrastructure platform that provides the highest density echo cancellation solution available in today’s market. This same platform can be used to provide high density solutions for voice or video media gateway and transcoding applications. The TNETV3020 supports 204 channels of AMR or 504 channels of G.711. Once again, even higher voice channel densities are available for various customer-specific scenarios. A multi-level memory architecture simplifies the design by reducing chip count and bill-of-materials cost.

“Because of the continuing use of the PSTN and the evolution to all-IP network, echo cancellation will remain a critical piece in the overall voice quality equation.” said John Warner, strategic marketing manager for TI’s Carrier Infrastructure Group. “Offering the most robust, widely deployed echo canceller on a multitude of platforms will provide carriers with a greater sense of service quality assurance and network differentiation.”

TI’s Telinnovation echo canceller is currently available as a software function for the C64x and C64x+ processors and will also be available as a dedicated image on the TNETV3020 in Q407.
