PrismTech(TM), an acknowledged leader in the provision of state-of-the-art middleware and development tools, announced that its Senior Consultant, Bob Kukura, had been elected to the Object Management Group’s(TM) (OMG(TM)) Architecture Board (AB). He will bring extensive experience in Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA(R)), Data Distribution Service (DDS) and Model Driven Development (MDD) to the OMG’s AB.
OMG is an international, open membership, not-for-profit computer industry consortium. OMG Task Forces develop enterprise integration standards for a wide range of technologies, including: Real-time, Embedded and Specialized Systems, Analysis and Design, Architecture-Driven Modernization and Middleware and an even wider range of industries, including: Business Modeling and Integration, C4I, Finance, Government, Healthcare, Legal Compliance, Life Sciences Research, Manufacturing Technology, Robotics, Software-Based Communications and Space. OMG’s middleware standards and profiles are based on the CORBA and DDS standards and support a wide variety of industries.
The OMG’s AB mission is to ensure that specifications developed by the Domain Technology Committee (DTC) and the Platform Technology Committee (PTC) concerning infrastructure and modeling specifications, as well as vertical market specifications, are consistent with the OMG’s architecture and existing suite of specifications.
A cornerstone of PrismTech’s strategy since its foundation in 1992 has been the support and promotion of international standards for distributed computing. A key element of this strategy has been PrismTech’s membership of the OMG which the company joined in 1993. PrismTech believes that the software industry has benefited greatly from the OMG’s specifications for interoperable computing as evidenced by the thousands of mission-critical CORBA applications in use today. Because PrismTech believes so strongly in the OMG the company dedicates significant time, money and resources to it by having PrismTech personnel contributing to its work, and by sponsoring its technical workshops and events (including the Distributed Object Computing for Real-time and Embedded Systems, Software Based Communications Workshop, and Technical Meetings).
PrismTech’s Senior Consultant, Bob Kukura, has an extensive background as both a vendor and an end-user of OMG’s platform and domain technologies, as well as a personal commitment to the OMG’s open standards process. He has actively participated in the OMG throughout most of his career, attending his first OMG meeting in 1989. He has been a submitter, editor and chair on numerous OMG specifications.
At the recent OMG Technical Meeting held in San Diego, CA, USA, Bob Kukura was elected by the members of the OMG to the AB. He will take his seat on the first day of the OMG Brussels, Belgium Technical Meeting in June 2007 sponsored by PrismTech.
“I’m very pleased to have been elected to the Architecture Board,” said Bob Kukura. “As a member of the Architecture Board, my primary goal will be to ensure the quality and usability of the wide range of standards produced by the OMG, from both an end-user and a vendor perspective. I understand that time to market is, now more than ever, a key factor in the success of a standard. I therefore believe that the AB’s role should be to work closely with the task forces during the development of each RFP, the evaluation of responses, and the subsequent revision processes, to ensure that the specifications are ready by the time they reach the formal AB review stage.”
“OMG is pleased to welcome Bob Kukura to its Architecture Board,” said Richard Soley, OMG Chairman and CEO. “Bob’s outstanding depth of knowledge, insight and leadership skills will help continue to drive forward the important work of this board.”
