Alpha and Omega Semiconductor, Inc. (AOS), a leading developer of advanced power semiconductor solutions, expanded its presence in the Power IC market by introducing the AOZ1320 smart load switch. The new device operates from a wide input voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V and can be turned on using 1.8V logic making it ideal for applications such as cell phones, PDAs, portable media players, digital cameras, notebook computers and other portable consumer electronics.
“Developed using state-of-the-art CMOS technology, the AOZ1320 features the industry’s lowest RDS(on) of 75mOhm in a tiny 2mm x 2 mm footprint,” said Ralph Monteiro, Director of Marketing for AOS’s Power IC products. “The devices integrate functions such as slew rate control as well as load discharge making the device ideal for limiting inrush current and eliminating input supply glitches when turning on microprocessors, DSPs, CPLDs, LCD displays, hard drives, cell phone power amplifiers, vibration motors and other capacitive loads.”
AOZ1320 is a P-channel high-side load switch with factory programmed slew rates. The device is available in three slew rate options to suit a variety of load requirements. The AOZ1320-01 and AOZ1320-04 have a slew rate of 1ms, the AOZ1320-02 and AOZ1320-05 features fast slew rates of less than 500ns while the slew rate of AOZ1320-03 and AOZ1320-06 is 100µs.
In addition, the -3, -4 and -5 options of the AOZ1320 family also provide an output discharge circuit to quickly discharge the output when the switch is disabled. This protects against possible damage to the load during power sequencing. The devices offer TTL and CMOS logic compatible control inputs eliminating the need for external level shifting circuitry. Protection features include under-voltage lockout protection and thermal shutdown.
Pricing and Availability
The AOZ1320 is available in a 6-pin SOT23 or 8-pin 2mm x 2mm DFN package and operates over the -40°C to +85°C ambient temperature range. Pricing in 1000 piece quantities begins at 0.35 for the AOZ1320 in the SOT-23 package and 0.41 in the 2mm x 2mm DFN package.
