Concurrent (NASDAQ:CCUR), a leading provider of time-critical Linux(R) operating systems and integrated software and computer solutions for mission-critical applications, and The FTI Group, a member of the Aviatronics consortium of well-known German suppliers in aviation and aerospace industries, announced a partnership to deliver simulation systems and services within Europe, most notably to Airbus projects in Germany.
The Airbus A400M High Lift System hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test stand was a solution recently delivered by the Concurrent/FTI team. The system will be used to test the A400M aircraft’s high-lift control computers which are responsible for controlling the trailing-edge flaps that generate higher lift during take-off and landing. The system leverages The MathWorks’ popular MATLAB(R)/Simulink(R) modeling and test management software for rapid simulation development and test.

In the A400M test stand, I/O points can be gathered and stored along with Simulink variables using Concurrent’s real-time database (RTDB) and data logger in a 500 usec frame while still providing 300 usecs of run time for the Simulink model. Concurrent’s Frequency Based Scheduler synchronizes all test definition language activity, Simulink models, RTDB, I/O and data logging to provide a seamless hard-in-the-loop test system. The RTDB and I/O configurations as well as the data logger can be quickly reconfigured from existing files that are saved in a configuration database.
The A400M HIL test stand includes Concurrent iHawk quad-CPU and dual-CPU multiprocessors powered by Concurrent’s real-time RedHawk(TM) Linux(R). In addition, The FTI Group provided valuable software and other professional services including integration, test management, test specifications and evaluation tools to fulfill Airbus requirements.
HIL simulation is a critical product development process providing comprehensive testing of components in a virtual environment in which other subsystems are replaced by mathematical models. Components to be tested are inserted into a closed loop that is reproducible, systematic, fast and more reliable than actual bench testing.
Following the successful A400 test stand project, Concurrent and FTI Group team delivered to Airbus the initial system for the Single Drive Concept (SDC) technology program. SDC further expands the role of real-time simulation in Airbus component design.
