Concurrent Introduces AdvancedMC Mass Storage Modules

Concurrent Technologies announces an AdvancedMC(TM) (AMC) mass storage module supporting either two 2.5″ Serial ATA hard disk drives (HDD) or two CompactFlash(TM) drives – Raid 0 and Raid 1 support is also available. The AM 600/20x is designed to add user definable mass storage drives into a double-width full-size or mid-size AMC slot in a system, e.g. MicroTCA(TM), where functionality, power, space and cost are key elements. The AM 600/20x AMC form factor is compatible with the open-standards AdvancedTCA(R) and MicroTCA system architectures. Applications include telecommunications, defence, aerospace and medical markets.

Concurrent AM 600/20x AdvancedMC Mass Storage ModulesThe two onboard 2.5″ Serial ATA hard disk drives connect directly to the AMC.3 Type S2 (port 2 and port 3) connections in the AM 600/20x’s common options region. There are also options to fit a single hard disk drive or enable the system integrator to fit their own drives. The Serial ATA interface supports transfer rates up to 150Mbytes/s per drive. The interface is also compatible with Raid 0 and Raid 1 systems; complex Raid systems can be supported with multiple boards.

Alternatively there is the option for two onboard CompactFlash sites. Both sites connect, via Serial ATA to Parallel ATA interfaces, to the AMC.3 Type S2 (port 2 and port 3) connections in the AM 600/20x’s common options region. The interface transfer rates depend upon the access speed of the CompactFlash module fitted, typically up to 33Mbytes/s.

The AM 600/20x is designed in compliance to AMC.0 (including full hot swap and IPMI capabilities) and can operate with an appropriate single board computer AMC module like the Concurrent Technologies’ PR AMC/33x AMC Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor module or the AM 100/20x AMC Dual-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor module.

The AM 600/20x is compatible with all major commercial or embedded operating systems.

The AdvancedMC(TM) (AMC) specification is ratified by PICMG(R) to be compatible with the current AdvancedTCA(R) (ATCA) and the MicroTCA(TM) system architectures. The AMC concept provides a system integrator with a modular approach that is scalable, cost effective, fabric based, and hot swappable. The modules are designed according to a series of AMC.x specifications – where AMC.0 defines the form-factor, connector, power and thermal characteristics, management, clocking and base fabric, AMC.1 maps PCI Express onto the extended (or fat pipe) fabric interface, AMC.2 defines Ethernet ports, AMC.3 defines mass storage ports and AMC.4 defines Serial RapidIO.
