Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH with its headquarters in Frankenthal, Germany has acquired the British company Sunrise Electronics Ltd. Established 15 years ago, Sunrise Electronics Ltd. – with more than 120 design-wins in the last year – is NEC Electronics’ most successful distributor in the United Kingdom, closely followed by Gleichmann Electronics UK Ltd. According to Thomas Klein, Managing Director of Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH in Germany, the future fusion of the British daughter company Gleichmann Electronics UK Ltd. with the new daughter company Sunrise Electronics Ltd. in Gleichmann-Sunrise Ltd. is not only to further expand its position as NEC Electronics’ leading distributor in the United Kingdom. “The acquisition of Sunrise Electronics Ltd. by the parent company Gleichmann & Co. Electronics GmbH also makes us NEC Electronics’ Number 1 Europe-wide distributor,” he says with pleasure.
Ian Davidson, currently Managing Director of Sunrise Electronics Ltd., will continue his role and also manage business operations of the future Gleichmann-Sunrise Ltd. He will be supported by Mark Devenport, currently Office Manager of Gleichmann Electronics UK Ltd. and Dave Chappell, Marketing and Sales Director of Sunrise Electronics Ltd. In future, Mark Devenport and Dave Chappell will share responsibility for Sales and Marketing.
Ian Davidson underlines the advantages, which this friendly takeover will bring for all parties in times of ever-fiercer competition. “Starting with more than two dozen highly qualified employees, a substantially enlarged complementary product portfolio and the logistics support of an internationally successful distribution and service company, we will obviously be in a position to offer our customers and suppliers completely new service possibilities.”
Gleichmann-Sunrise Ltd. will establish its headquarters in Cosgrove, Milton Keynes, England. According to Thomas Klein, the Gleichmann office, located just three kilometers away, will be closed in the next few months. “This action is purely for organizational reasons,” he explains. “We did not acquire Sunrise Electronics Ltd. to save personnel. Quite the opposite, our goal is a further rapid expansion. This takes into account customer satisfaction, for which we need an adequate number of both motivated and highly qualified personnel.”
Ian Davidson also sees the current Sunrise Electronics Ltd. location as the better alternative in order to optimally use increased personnel resources. “We want to rapidly grow further. It is, however, crucial that we continue to offer customers and suppliers the best possible service. The premises in Cosgrove currently offer ideal facilities for this.”
The affiliation with the Gleichmann Group gives current Sunrise Electronics Ltd. customers numerous additional technical and logistics services. Among others, Gleichmann takes a leading role in programming services. In one of Europe’s most modern programming centers, up to two million devices, from standard memory components to modern 32-bit microcontrollers right up to Antifuse FPGAs, are programmed per month. 24 hours a day. Seven days a week. Additionally, Gleichmann in Germany operates two ASIC design centers, which turns customer’s ideas and visions into production ready products. Together with the support of Munich-based Displaign GmbH, which is also part of the Gleichmann Group, complete display designs can be implemented to customer’s order.
