Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), announced enhancements to Wind River Workbench(R) 2.6.1 On-Chip Debugging Edition, the company’s comprehensive device software development toolset for mitigating the complexities of on-chip debugging. The upgraded Wind River Workbench, OCD Edition, provides a development toolset that does not require kernel instrumentation to debug the Linux kernel and user applications, and will also offer multicore device developers a more fully supported, standards-based development environment.

Workbench 2.6.1, OCD Edition Enhancements:
Broadened Multicore Support: Among the industry’s leading JTAG development solution, the product offers support for debugging complex device projects while providing Ethernet to JTAG/EJTAG/BDM connectivity for a broad range of operating systems and 32-bit and 64-bit processors. Additionally, the upgraded solution also offers the advantages of debugging multiple devices on the same scan chain. Customers will now be able to debug up to eight devices simultaneously and share a single ICE unit across networks of multiple developers on a broad range of new multicore processors.
Enhanced Linux Debugging Capabilities: Wind River Workbench for On-Chip Debugging provides developers with the ability to debug the Linux kernel, User Applications and Shared Libraries, without requiring kernel instrumentation. Workbench OCD enables developers to see both System and User Application contexts when debugging in Linux and eases debugging of system-application interaction issues.
Improved Usability: Workbench OCD, an industry-leading Eclipse-based JTAG development environment for hardware bring-up through application development, provides additional plug-ins to Eclipse in the form of new “Views” targeted at improving the Eclipse development environment for device software developers and initial hardware bring-up.

New Workbench Eclipse Plug-In “View” Features
Quick Target Launch Utility: Enables device software developers to easily define cross-target launches. Developers select from a list of predefined launches, either taking control of an already running target or starting a target from reset, which results in the user quickly moving from target launch selection to debugging complex hardware and software problems.
Launch Configuration Utility: Provides a more efficient and streamlined workflow by guiding developers through an intuitive workflow, stepping through the required configuration options to correctly set up devices. Developers can move readily from one area of the configuration utility to another, only configuring areas that pertain to their device.
Binary Upload Utility: Enables developers to graphically select an area of memory on their device, including sectors of Flash, and upload the image into a file on their host PC. The file can then be stored, compared with other files, or used in other areas of development.
Compare Utility: Allows developers to easily compare a selected area of memory on their device with a file on the host PC or network. Any differences between the files will be displayed graphically in the Workbench editor view. This feature can be used to help identify differences between the images.

Wind River Workbench, On-Chip Debugging Edition, supports a wide range of processors and operating systems. Wind River is expanding its support for multicore devices with the support of the following processors:
