LeCroy introduces UART, RS-232, and LIN trigger and decode capability, adding to its existing trigger solutions for I2C, SPI and CAN. These solutions are available on all WaveRunner(R) Xi and WaveSurfer(R) Xs products, including the new high-performance mixed signal oscilloscopes introduced. With the introduction of the new mixed signal oscilloscopes, LeCroy’s serial data bus solutions can analyze data captured on digital inputs, thereby leaving the oscilloscope channels free for important analog signals.
Most embedded systems include a range of different peripheral devices, and proper communication between the microcontroller and these peripherals is important. To help in the design and debug of these communication lines, the WaveRunner Xi and WaveSurfer Xs mixed signal oscilloscopes offer serial data trigger and decode solutions for a wide range of protocols.
The UART and RS-232 solution provides the ability to trigger and decode both RS-232 and generic UART signals. This generic UART format is widely used as a backbone for many proprietary protocols, and LeCroy’s UART package can be configured to decode any of these UART-based busses. With powerful conditional triggering and support of 9-bit formats, the LeCroy UART solution is the ideal tool for RS-232 and UART design and debug.
The new LIN trigger and decode solution provides full support of LIN 1.3, 2.0 and J2602. The flexible LIN trigger can be set for Break (Start of Frame), Message ID, Message ID + Data and Error Frames. Multiple error frame types, including checksum, header parity, sync byte or any combination of the three, can be specified as the trigger condition. Powerful conditional data triggering allows the oscilloscope to trigger when data is in range, out of range, or less than or greater than a defined value.
Both the UART and LIN solutions use LeCroy’s patented software algorithms for decoding and displaying the data. A unique color-coded overlay is placed on top of the signal and can be read at a glance. The decoded data can be displayed in binary, hexadecimal or ASCII format. As the amount of time displayed on the screen is changed, the data is formatted to fit the screen, ensuring that it is always easy to read. The decode data can also be displayed in an interactive table for easy identification. Clicking on an entry in the table zooms to the decode message for further inspection. Data values can be quickly located in long record lengths of UART and LIN data by using the search capabilities.
The UART/RS-232 TD and LIN TD packages for trigger and decode are available on WaveRunner Xi and WaveSurfer Xs at a list price of $745 and $1,295, respectively. The UART/RS-232 D and LIND packages for decode only are available on WaveRunner 6000A, WavePro 7000A and WaveMaster 8000A platforms and are priced at is $495 and $845, respectively. Mixed signal capability is available on all WaveRunner Xi and WaveSurfer Xs oscilloscopes beginning at $9,180.
