X-FAB Acquires ZFOUNDRY

X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries AG (Erfurt) and ZMD AG (Dresden) have agreed that X-FAB will take over ZFOUNDRY (ZMD Analog Mixed Signal Services GmbH & Co. KG), the wafer production facilities of ZMD, located in Dresden, effective immediately. ZFOUNDRY will be integrated into the X-FAB Group as a subsidiary of the Erfurt-based X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries AG. In addition, the companies agreed to maintain close collaboration long-term regarding wafer manufacture. A wafer delivery contract ensures that X-FAB will become the principal supplier of foundry services for ZMD which, in turn, becomes one of the Top 10 customers of the X-FAB Group. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Altium Designer Offers Direct Import of FPGA Cores

Altium Limited (ASX: ALU), announced that it has added support for the direct import of FPGA cores generated by third-party applications to its Altium Designer unified electronic product development system. This new tool makes the creation and import of highlyoptimized, device-specific custom FPGA cores from device vendor tools such as Xilinx's Core Generator and Altera's Megafunction Wizard easy and efficient and significantly enhances the ability of FPGA developers to take full advantage of the high-level design capabilities of Altium Designer to accelerate system development.

Hikvision to Integrate ObjectVideo, TI Technology into Video Products

ObjectVideo, Inc., the leader in intelligent video, and Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) announced a strategic win with Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology, the leading provider of video surveillance products in China. Through this partnership, Hikvision will incorporate ObjectVideo(R)'s award-winning smart analytics technology running on a TI digital signal processor-based (DSP) platform into its video products. The technology is licensed through WPG System, the ObjectVideo OEM distribution partner for the Asia Pacific region.

Arrow Electronics to Distribute PHYTEC Rapid Development Kits

The North American Components (NAC) business of Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) announced it has entered into an agreement with Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) to distribute PHYTEC Rapid Development Kits, powered by ADI's Blackfin processor, to original equipment and contract manufacturers across North America. The Development Kits should enable manufacturers to differentiate their products and get them to market faster.

Intel to Roll Out 45nm Penryn Processors This Year

Marking the next step in Intel's "tick-tock" product strategy and cadence to deliver a new process technology with an enhanced microarchitecture or entirely new microarchitecture every year, Intel Corporation will begin producing its next-generation Penryn family of processors in the second half of this year. These new processors benefit from enhancements to the Intel(R) Core(TM) microarchitecture and also Intel's industry-leading 45nm Hi-k process technology with its hafnium-based high-K + metal gate transistor design, which results in higher performance and more energy-efficient processors.
