Mentor Debuts Nucleus USB Device Firmware Upgrade Class Driver

Posted by EDA Geek News Staff in Embedded Systems on Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ:MENT) announced a new class driver for the Nucleus(R) USB software, supporting the Nucleus Operating System (OS). The Nucleus USB Device Firmware Upgrade (DFU) class driver allows embedded developers to utilize Universal Serial Bus (USB) to enable consumers to upgrade and improve embedded software on existing devices.

By adding the Nucleus USB DFU class driver to USB-based devices, firmware can be passed from a host (most likely a PC or laptop) to the target device, where the older firmware can then be updated to the latest version. This allows developers to continue improving software in existing products, thereby extending a product's lifespan.

"Easily updating deployed products in the field has been a problem our customers have reported for years. Taking advantage of USB solves this problem by providing a connection type consumers are familiar with," said Glen Johnson, marketing director, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics. "The Nucleus USB DFU class driver will help our customers easily update their products, keeping those devices in use for longer periods of time. The Nucleus USB DFU software illustrates our dedication to bringing top-of-the-line support for USB protocols by adding to our already vast portfolio."

Pricing and Availability
The Nucleus embedded software is sold in source code format and without royalty fees. Available now, licenses for the Nucleus USB software start at U.S. $17,495 and licenses for the class drivers begin at U.S. $3,495.
