Samsung Expands NOR Flash Portfolio

Posted by Ken Cheung in Components on Sunday, February 25, 2007

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced semiconductor technology solutions, announced that it has begun competing broadly in the NOR flash market worldwide. Previously providing NOR memory only to its largest customers upon request and as part of some multi-chip packages, the company is now offering a comprehensive range of NOR flash from 16Mb to 512Mb densities for all interested parties.

“Consistent with our overall strategy of offering the broadest portfolio of memory products, we now offer a complete line of NOR flash products beginning last month. We see NOR flash as a key component in low-end cell phones which would hold substantial market share in emerging markets,” said John R. Cerrato, vice president, global account sales, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.

At the start of the year, Samsung reinforced its flash memory business strategy by expanding offerings of NOR flash memory in all major application markets, specifically networking, handsets and other consumer electronics, as well as to its key customers.

Production schedules have been primed for quick turnaround in order to meet fast-track customer demands for NOR flash, primarily in the handset market.

Samsung is the largest producer of the NAND flash memory focusing on the higher growth potential for high density and fast write performance.
