Ramtron Offers USB Interface for Versa 8051 MCU Development Kit

Ramtron International Corporation (Nasdaq: RMTR), a leading developer and supplier of non-volatile ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) and integrated semiconductor products, announced that it will now offer a universal serial bus (USB) interface for in-circuit programming/debugging with its Versa 8051 microcontroller development tools.

Ramtron's VersaKit-30xx MCU development kit with USB interface

The VJTAG-USB, a USB-based JTAG interface, will ship with the VersaKit-30xx, a complete and comprehensive evaluation platform that facilitates system prototyping and design development with Ramtron’s fast and flexible MCUs – the VRS51L2070 and the FRAM-Enhanced VRS51L3074.

The new USB board will enable faster device programming and superior in-circuit debugging. It functions on Windows-based computers with a USB interface capability and can be used independently of the VersaKit devboard to program Ramtron MCUs installed on other target hardware. The VersaKit-30xx includes a development board with VRS51L3074 device; VJTAG-USB in-circuit programming/debugging interface; a USB cable; and a power supply.

The development board incorporates a comprehensive set of probe vias and header footprints for easy access to chip peripherals and I/Os; an RS-232 transceiver and two DB9 connectors for UART access; eight user LEDs; two tact switches for manual reset/interrupt triggering; ample prototyping space; and a JTAG access for in-circuit programming and real-time debugging of the VRS51L2070/3074. For evaluation of Ramtron’s FRAM memory devices, the board also features an FM31256 Processor Companion, an FM25CL64 (serial SPI FRAM) and an FM24CL64 (serial I2C FRAM).

Ramtron programming and debugging software is provided free with the VersaKit-30xx. Downloads and updates are posted online.

The VersaKit-30xx is available now priced at US $49.

About Ramtron
Ramtron International Corporation, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets specialized semiconductor memory, microcontroller and integrated semiconductor solutions used in a wide range of product applications and markets worldwide. Ramtron pioneered the integration of ferroelectric materials into semiconductor products, which enabled the development of a new class of nonvolatile memory products called ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) products. FRAM products merge the advantages of multiple memory technologies into a single device that retains information without a power source, can read and write at high speeds, can be written to many times, and consumes low amounts of power. Additionally, Ramtron works with various leading-edge licensees and manufacturers to bring its technology to market.
