SecureWave, a worldwide leader in endpoint security, announced that SecureWave Sanctuary has met all the requirements established in the Verification Testing program for Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service. Sanctuary 4.0, the industry’s first security solution for enforcing both device and application control, is officially listed in the Windows Embedded for Point of Service catalog, which contains a database of retail and hospitality applications and peripherals verified to work with Windows Embedded for Point of Service.
By developing client components for the Microsoft Windows XP Embedded operating system, SecureWave Sanctuary 4.0 moves beyond the traditional desktop and laptop endpoints and onto a variety of platforms that will include ATMs, industrial robotics, thin clients, kiosks, set-top boxes, network area storage devices and the myriad of other systems running Windows XP Embedded. Sanctuary can help protect these and future form factors from unauthorized programs and malware while ensuring device stability, optimal network performance and high availability. It also enables enterprises to maintain complete control over portable devices — including removable USB storage devices and Bluetooth keyboards — that can interact with these next-generation endpoints.
“We are pleased SecureWave has met the requirements to manage security for Windows Embedded for Point of Service,” said Jane Gilson, director, Mobile and Embedded Devices Division, Microsoft Corp. “Microsoft Windows Embedded operating systems have achieved a great deal of success in the retail industry, and with SecureWave Sanctuary 4.0 retail platforms running those operating systems will be better protected when exchanging vital information.”
Using a single console, Sanctuary 4.0 integrates the views and reports of application and I/O device activity and their interaction, as well as the attempted use of unauthorized applications and devices. Enabling application and device access rights at a high level or all the way down to device class, specific device or application to users, user groups, a particular computer and much more, Sanctuary provides administrators with the control they need and gives end users the flexibility that they demand, even for embedded environments.
“Traditionally, endpoints were easily defined — a desktop, laptop PC or printer — but today, an endpoint can be anything from a smart phone to an ATM machine, making the security paradigm even more complex,” said Bertrand Manhe, Director of Strategic Alliances at SecureWave. “Companies across the globe are increasingly moving data from traditional endpoints to embedded environments, escalating the risks for data leakage and malware. By meeting the criteria set forth by Windows Embedded for Point of Service, SecureWave strengthens our commitment to protect corporate data and assets, no matter where they reside.” More information about SecureWave and its Sanctuary line of products will be available at the National Retail Federation Convention & Expo at Microsoft booth number 818.
