The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium announced publication of certified benchmark scores for the TC1796, the first member of the TriCore(R)-based AUDO-NG family of automotive microcontrollers from Infineon Technologies. Tested against AutoBench 1.1, EEMBC’s suite of automotive/industrial processor benchmarks, the 150-MHz TC1796 achieved a score of 100 Automarks, the highest recorded value for a device in this frequency range.

The Automark score is the geometric mean of the 16 benchmark kernels in AutoBench, which include tests representing signal processing, communications, and general-purpose microcontroller workloads typical of automotive and industrial systems. For these benchmark tests, the TC1796 was used in conjunction with the Tasking VX Toolset for TriCore(R) v2.1r2.

“These benchmark scores, certified by the EEMBC Technology Center, provide an excellent approximation of how this device will handle computationally intensive tasks required by automotive applications,” said Markus Levy, EEMBC president. “The fact that these scores are certified lends an extra level of credibility to the information that Infineon is providing its customers.”

The TC1796, part of Infineon’s AUDO-NG family, is optimized for applications requiring embedded real-time performance and DSP capabilities combined with a fast interrupt response time and high level of fault tolerance. The TC1796 features 2 MB of embedded flash and on-chip peripherals including Micro Second Bus, fast ADC, and the Micro Link Interface. Its triple-bus structure is intended to boost overall automotive system performance while reducing system costs.

“These EEMBC benchmark scores offer convincing proof that the AUDO-NG TC1796 processor is a great solution to meet the performance requirements of very demanding automotive applications,” said Dr. Christopher Hegarty, vice president and general manager, Infineon Microcontroller. “It is therefore not surprising that a majority of OEMs and Tier1s have decided on our microcontroller as their preferred option for modern intelligent diesel and gas engine control systems. In fact, the TC1796, as well as the smaller TC1766, offers real-time performance that no other existing microcontroller can match, according to extensive testing that we have performed. The AUDO-NG family owes its outstanding performance to a combination of an innovative architecture that incorporates fast bus systems for on-chip communication, intelligent peripheral units, and increased CPU clock rates.”

About EEMBC
EEMBC, the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium, develops and certifies real-world benchmarks and benchmark scores to help designers select the right embedded processors for their systems.
