At the December 2006 NEC Electronics Europe distribution meeting in Dusseldorf, Gleichmann Electronics was the first company ever to receive the award for “Best Performing SLSI Distributor”. Crucial to this award was the number of design wins, which Gleichmann Electronics was able to more than double within the past 12 months, achieved by concentrating on the sectors: Building Management, Motor Control, Healthcare, Industrial Automation and Connectivity.
Thomas Klein, Managing Director of Gleichmann Electronics, sees the award as a confirmation of the company’s success driven philosophy. “More than ever, innovative, complementary system solutions for Building Management, Motor Control, Healthcare, Industrial Automation and Connectivity can now be offered by means of ‘mirrored marketing structure for initiatives’, as agreed one year ago with NEC Electronics. Our (for a distributor) unusual, in-depth technical competence is, of course, a great asset toward becoming a fulfillment solution provider.”
Gleichmann Electronics, one of NEC Electronics Europe’s longstanding and successful distributors in Germany, has, over the years, been able to continuously strengthen its market position in Europe. Thomas Klein attributes this mainly to Gleichmann’s experienced and professional employees capable of providing customers with intensive design support. “In times of increasingly complex products, customers are looking for partners with relevant system know-how. The component manufactures alone are not able to cope with this challenge. For this reason, Gleichmann Electronics deploys a Europe-wide team of 27 engineers, solely for the support of MCUs, ASICs, PowerMOSFETs, Optocouplers and industrial TFTs.”
Thomas Klein also sees the in-house ASIC design center, or services, such as the design of innovative TFT controls, as playing an ever increasing role for design wins. Offering only superficial consulting and clever logistics concepts are, medium term, not sufficient to be successful as a distributor. “Gleichmann Electronics’ award as “Best Performing System LSI Distributor 2006″ is proof of this,” adds Thomas Klein.
Rainer Bechem, Sales Director of NEC Electronics Europe, also foresees an increased responsibility on the part of distributors. “A great deal of experience and system know-how are necessary in order to address market segments such as Building Management, Motor Control, Healthcare, Industrial Automation and Connectivity with optimized solutions. More than ever, NEC Electronics Europe’s strong focus on these core segments requires the support of technically competent distributors.” At the awards ceremony, Rainer Bechem was impressed with the enthusiasm shown by distributors such as Gleichmann Electronics to meet this new challenge. “We, as a design-in oriented ‘Solution Seller’, could not have wished for a more ideal partner than Gleichmann Electronics,” commented Rainer Bechem.
