Concurrent Introduces CompactPCI Dual PMC SBC with Intel Core 2 Duo

Concurrent Technologies announces the release of an Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor based CompactPCI single board computers (SBC) as a performance upgrade from the PP 410/03x released earlier in the year. The PP 412/03x uses the latest mobile dual core processor from the Intel(R) embedded roadmap, the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor, giving an even greater improvement in measured performance/watt.

The PP 412/03x can access up to 4 Gbytes DDR2-400 ECC SDRAM at up to 6.4 Gbytes/s. And for I/O flexibility there are two high performance PMC sites supporting both front and rear I/O, three Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PICMG(R) 2.16 (Ethernet fabric), PICMG 2.9 (IPMI) and PICMG 2.1 (hot swap). The PP 412/03x can operate as a system controller board, a peripheral board or as a satellite board (blade). This combination of high performance data processing and a wealth of I/O ensure that the boards are ideal for intensive data processing applications within the telecommunications, defence, security, telemetry, scientific and aerospace markets.

The PP 412/03x board supports the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor (in a socket) with 4 Mbytes L2 cache (shared between the cores). By using appropriate operating systems and applications software, a computing performance increase of up to twice an Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor is achievable, and yet the Intel Thermal Design Power (TDP) for the 2.16 GHz dual core processor is 34W versus 27W TDP for the single core 2.0 GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 760 (with 2 Mbytes L2 cache). The Intel(R) E7520 server class chipset and Intel(R) 6300ESB ICH are used to complement the processor to achieve a high performance, yet low power, core architecture.

“The combination of the Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor and the Intel(R) E7520 chipset provides an excellent performance upgrade, within the same power consumption envelope, to our existing server class CompactPCI product line,” commented Glen Fawcett, CEO, Concurrent Technologies. “Practically speaking, the PP 412/03x using the 2.16GHz Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor demonstrates a remarkable increased performance per watt over the 2.0GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor board it replaces, the PP 312/01x.”

As an intelligent PMC carrier with dual PMC sites, the PP 412/03x is ideally suited to intensive I/O or data applications. Each PMC site is controlled via its own PCI bus. PMC site 2 supports up to 100MHz PCI-X operation and supports a x8 PCI Express(TM) XMC interface. PMC site 1 supports up to 66MHz PCI operation. As well as front I/O, the PMC I/O connector signals from both PMC sites are routed to the rear connectors (J4 is not fitted).

A wide range of onboard I/O is available to the user: the board supports three 10/100/1000Mps Ethernet interfaces (one front and two rear) and the front panel also supports a USB 2.0, RS 232, graphics, keyboard and mouse interfaces. As well as dual PMC rear I/O, the rear panel supports three more USB 2.0, up to two more RS-232, two SATA150, stereo audio line in/out, parallel printer port and 3.5-inch floppy disk interfaces. Other features included are a watchdog timer, long duration timer, LAN boot firmware and options for an onboard 2.5-inch EIDE hard disk drive and/or CompactFlash(TM) EIDE storage. For applications requiring rear I/O connections a variety of transition modules are also available.

For ease of integration, the PP 410/03x family of boards support many of today’s leading operating systems, including Linux(R), Windows(R) Server 2003, Windows(R) 2000, Windows(R) XP Embedded, Windows(R) XP, VxWorks(R) and QNX(R).
