MIPS Technologies Files Patent, Trademark Lawsuit Against Trident

MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications and business applications, announced that the company filed a patent and trademark infringement lawsuit against Trident Microsystems, Inc. on December 1, 2006 in the United States District Court, Northern District of California. After business discussions have failed to resolve Trident’s unauthorized use of MIPS Technologies’ intellectual property (“IP”), the company has taken this next step.

“MIPS Technologies is a leader in designing and licensing high-performance, cost- effective microprocessor based technology,” said Jim Kurkowski, vice president of intellectual property. “We have invested significant resources in developing this technology, as reflected in our extensive trademark and patent portfolios. While we strive to build relationships and successes based upon the licensing of authentic MIPS processor cores and architectures, we are prepared to defend and assert our IP rights where necessary to protect our investment.”
