Bitstream, Inc., (NASDAQ: BITS) announced that QNX Software Systems has extended its licensing agreement with the company. Under this new agreement, QNX has extended its license for Bitstream’s Font Fusion technology. Font Fusion offers exceptional text rendering for mission-critical embedded systems based on the QNX(R) Neutrino(R) realtime operating system (RTOS). This agreement is the twelfth agreement between the two companies.
Font Fusion is Bitstream’s premier font rasterizing engine that renders high-quality characters in any format, at any resolution, on any device. QNX chose Font Fusion because the font rendering subsystem provides a highly scalable font architecture for the embedded environment.
The QNX and Bitstream partnership spans a ten-year period and encompasses several projects. In addition to Font Fusion, QNX has also licensed Bitstream’s highly compact, scalable Asian stroke-based fonts, allowing QNX to provide Asian language support for its many customers in the Asian market. In addition, QNX also collaborated with Bitstream’s custom font group to develop custom characters from several of Bitstream’s font families.
Anna Chagnon, President and CEO of Bitstream, Inc. commented on the partnership, saying “For more than 25 years, QNX has been providing RTOS technology and development tools to leading companies around the world. For ten years, Bitstream has been able to support that effort with a range of font technology solutions that enable QNX to provide its customers with better communications around the world. We are proud of the work we have done with QNX and look forward to many more years of successful growth together.”
“Because customers use QNX technology in everything from cars in Korea to power plants in Europe, support for fonts in multiple languages is critical,” said Mark Roberts, Director of Product Management at QNX Software Systems. “Bitstream’s Font Fusion enables fast, highly readable displays that offer a better user experience for our customers.”
