Micrium, a leading provider of high quality embedded software components, announced that Microchip Technology Inc. [NASDAQ: MCHP], a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, now provides Kernel Awareness for Micrium’s uC/OS-II real-time operating system (RTOS) in Microchip’s free MPLAB(R) Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
With the latest version of MPLAB IDE (version 7.50 and later), Microchip’s embedded development customers are now able to easily debug applications designed around the uC/OS-II RTOS. Both Micrium and Microchip share a philosophy of providing quality tools that can be evaluated by the development community prior to purchase. Micrium’s RTOS and recently announced TCP/IP stack, and Microchip’s free development environment, are downloadable from each company’s respective Web site.
“As processor performance and design complexity continue to increase, an RTOS becomes invaluable for design development,” said Jean Labrosse, Micrium president and CEO. “The uC/OS-II RTOS, Micrium’s flagship product, manages up to 255 diverse application tasks. We are proud that Microchip has decided to provide uC/OS-II Kernel Awareness capabilities in its MPLAB IDE, and we look forward to a long-term relationship.”
“We see Micrium as a leader in RTOS technology. Its products are highly recognized and requested by our customers,” said Jim Pepping, development systems third party support manager for Microchip. “MPLAB IDE users can now take advantage of the Micrium RTOS and other middleware to quickly develop their products.”
The MPLAB IDE is a free, integrated toolset for the development of embedded applications using Microchip’s PIC(R) microcontrollers and dsPIC(R) digital signal controllers. The easy-to-use IDE serves as a single, unified graphical user interface for Microchip and third-party development tools.
The Micrium uC/OS-II RTOS is a portable, ROMable, scalable, preemptive real-time, multitasking kernel for microprocessors and microcontrollers. Scaled to contain only the features required for specific applications, it provides a small footprint and runs on a vast number of processor architectures and ports.
Micrium provides high-quality embedded software components by way of engineer-friendly source code, unsurpassed documentation and customer support. The company’s world-renowned real-time operating system, the Micrium uC/OS-II, features the highest-quality source code available for today’s embedded market. Micrium’s products consistently shorten time-to-market throughout all product development cycles.
