Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), announced that Wind River VxWorks 6.4 Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) is the first operating system to achieve certification for conformance to the PSE52 Real-Time Controller 1003.13(TM)-2003 Product Standard within the POSIX(R): Certified by IEEE and The Open Group certification program. Wind River is the first device software company to achieve this certification.
“Companies choose Wind River because we offer commercial-grade solutions backed by certifications to standards that are relevant and useful for our customers,” said John Bruggeman, chief marketing officer at Wind River. “This certification validates Wind River’s continued support of open standards. Being the first to achieve POSIX PSE52 Real-Time Controller 1003.13(TM)-2003 certification is a significant milestone for Wind River, but even more so for our Aerospace & Defense customers, where conformance to the POSIX 1003.13-2003 standard is generally more critical.”
Wind River’s commercial-grade technology enables aerospace and defense (A&D), network equipment and automotive device manufacturers to rapidly, efficiently and economically develop highly deterministic, standards-conformant applications certified for stringent levels of safety and security. POSIX, a family of standards developed by the Portable Applications Standards Committee (PASC) of the IEEE Computer Society, enables access to integrated information within and between enterprises based on open standards and global interoperability. Typically, greater levels of POSIX support enable code reuse and portability of third-party, open source applications to VxWorks and from VxWorks.
“We congratulate Wind River on being the first to achieve the PSE52 1003.13 Real-Time Controller certification for VxWorks 6.4,” said Andrew Josey, director of certification for The Open Group. “Achieving this certification is a significant achievement and clearly demonstrates Wind River’s commitment to open standards in its Device Software Optimization platform solutions.”
VxWorks is the industry’s leading device software operating system. Its determinism, performance, scalability, and footprint make more than 300 million devices worldwide run faster and more reliably. The next generation of VxWorks adds powerful new features and a focus on openness, performance, reliability, and interoperability.
Wind River also offers the following solutions to complement our operating system: the integrated, Eclipse-based Wind River(R) Workbench development suite; broad middleware components; comprehensive processor and BSP availability; professional services support; legions of experienced VxWorks developers; and the Device Software Optimization industry’s widest-ranging partner ecosystem of premier hardware, software, development tools, middleware, and applications providers.
