The Fab Owners Association (FOA), the association of semiconductor manufacturing executives and suppliers, has announced that device-maker International Rectifier (NYSE:IRF) has joined the organization as a voting member. Silicon Saxony, a network for the semiconductor, electronic and micro system industries based in Saxony, Germany, has also joined the FOA as an associate member.
The FOA recently concluded its first members’ meeting in Silicon Saxony’s headquarters city of Dresden. ZMD AG, the member host company, arranged tours of local Saxony manufacturers Qimonda, Infineon, and Advanced Mask Technology Corp. (AMTC).
“Because the FOA is an international association, locating our quarterly meeting in Dresden lets us connect to the world’s fifth largest semiconductor manufacturing region and extol our value proposition that semiconductor manufacturing facilities are a strategic marketing and selling advantage,” stated L.T. Guttadauro, executive director of the FOA. “Our organization provides the forum for device makers and suppliers to advance this business model and to find commonalities that can be leveraged through our combined strengths.”
Marc Rougee, International Rectifier’s vice president of Worldwide Fab Operations said, “At International Rectifier, we’re always looking for ways to better serve our customers. The Fab Owners Association is an excellent forum in which we can work with others, leveraging our collective expertise, to solve common manufacturing issues that result in a stronger supply chain or a better product.”
The FOA offers members significant benefits by promoting cooperative efforts among member companies and exploring methods to improve manufacturing efficiencies.
Major FOA efforts include exploring manufacturing efficiencies by:
- Working closely with best in industry providers and products
- Pursuing collaborative purchasing efficiencies
- Providing a member to member marketplace for used manufacturing equipment
- Collaborating on developing solutions for common manufacturing problems
- Looking over the horizon at the future of our industry and the welfare of our member companies
The FOA’s device-maker members are AMI Semiconductor, Cypress Semiconductor, Delphi Microelectronics Center, Fairchild Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor, International Rectifier, Intersil, Jazz Semiconductor, MagnaChip Semiconductor, Micrel Semiconductor, NXP Semiconductors, ON Semiconductor, Spansion, and ZMD AG.
FOA device maker member companies represent approximately 1,000,000 eight-inch- equivalent monthly wafer starts and over US $22 Billion in annual revenue.
