u-Nav Microelectronics, developer of the world's smallest and lowest power Global Positioning System (GPS) solutions, announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to settle the patent infringement lawsuit and dispute with SiRF Technology, Inc. As part of the settlement, u-Nav has granted SiRF a license to certain u-Nav GPS patents, and SiRF has granted u-Nav a license to certain SiRF GPS patents.

"We are pleased to have reached a settlement with SiRF," said Greg Winner, CEO at u-Nav. "We have great respect for SiRF as a pioneer in the field of GPS enabled location technology. This settlement should eliminate any uncertainty that our respective customers may have in regard to this litigation, for the duration of this agreement."

In resolving the patent dispute, u-Nav will have access to key elements of SiRF's leading portfolio of over 175 patents. As part of the settlement, SiRF will receive a license to some core GPS intellectual property that u-Nav has created and protected over the past 10+ years. u-Nav has developed four generations of CMOS based solutions for GPS, including single chip implementations. This has resulted in significant innovations and intellectual property in the areas of GPS architecture, software algorithms, and circuit developments.

"SiRF is pleased to have reached this settlement with u-Nav and to have u-Nav as a licensee," said Kanwar Chadha, Founder and VP of Marketing at SiRF. "Resolution of this patent litigation will enable both companies to focus on addressing the needs of the global GPS market."

This agreement settles the patent infringement lawsuit filed by SiRF Technology on August 5, 2005, against u-Nav Microelectronics in the United States District Court for the Central District of California and also settles the patent infringement Counterclaim filed by u-Nav Microelectronics on September 27, 2005 against SiRF Technology, in the same court.
