Embedded BIOS 2000 Supports Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0

SDC announced support for Microsoft’s newly released Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system with General Software’s Embedded BIOS(R) 2000, an OEM-configurable firmware layer that provides the essential functions needed by the operating systems as well as applications for PC-compatible embedded systems, consumer electronics, telecommunications and data communications devices, single board computers, point-of-sale terminals, kiosks, thin clients and pads, industrial automation devices, and other embedded devices.

“As embedded hardware becomes more complex, General Software’s support of Microsoft Windows Embedded CE becomes more crucial,” said Jane Gilson, director, Windows Mobile and Embedded Devices Group, Microsoft Corp. “Today’s embedded hardware platforms can require significant amounts of initialization and configuration in order to perform optimally. General Software provides the firmware backed with the level of support our embedded customers require.”

“General Software is excited about Microsoft’s commitment to continuing support of its Windows CE operating system used by embedded developers worldwide,” said Steve Jones, General Software’s CTO. “We continue to support Microsoft’s embedded OEM customers by providing the essential hardware initialization firmware, together with a fast Windows CE loader, needed to make great consumer products.”

General Software has a long-standing relationship with Microsoft and is a Gold Windows Embedded Partner. Keeping in step with Microsoft’s embedded road map, General helps ensure that designers of embedded systems using Windows Embedded CE 6.0 have the firmware tools they need.

About Firmbase(R) SDK
The Firmbase(R) Software Development Kit is used by developers to create firmware applications that harness Firmbase(R) Technology. Firmbase Technology is General Software’s patented 32-bit firmware infrastructure that contributes the surety and trust expected from firmware applications. A non-stop SMM envelope keeps firmware applications running, even when the OS and user application have failed, or are missing. Firmbase Technology is ROM-resident and provides a chain of trust from power-on to OS boot and beyond. It supplies the user-level security for the BIOS and for firmware applications which do not run under OS control.

About the Firmware Application Suite(TM)
The Firmware Application Suite is an integrated set of prewritten and tested applications employing Firmbase Technology that provide important device management functions. The applications include Boot Security, for ensuring device and application integrity, Platform Update Facility for manually or remotely installing new firmware, OS or user application images, and a High Availability Monitor which is capable of detecting and responding to OS and user application failures.
