Xyratex Ships E5402E 3Gb SAS – SAS/SATA RAID System

Xyratex Ltd. (NASDAQ: XRTX), a leading provider of storage enclosures for OEMs and Solution Integrators, today announced that the E5402E 3Gb SAS – SAS/SATA RAID system is now shipping. Xyratex will demonstrate this new system at Storage Networking World (SNW) Fall Exhibition and Conference in Orlando, Florida, October 31 – November 3, 2006.

Designed with the small and medium-sized business markets in mind, the 2U 12 drive E5402E provides end-users with high performance, system flexibility and simplified management and integration. Enhanced for direct attached or fabric environments, this highly cost-efficient solution delivers expanded scalability that utilizes both high-performance SAS and high-capacity SATA disk drives within a single enclosure. The combination of these features supports business continuity and ensures users benefit from a high degree of investment protection.

“SAS has the ability to help consolidate the islands of information stored on DAS without deploying a complex networked storage solution. SAS provides impressive performance for applications and with the built in support of SATA, SAS storage systems can leverage less expensive SATA drives enabling organizations to develop tiered storage solutions,” said Mark Bowker, analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “As a supplier to OEMs, Xyratex has a history of delivering next-generation storage technologies just ahead of market demand, and this latest SAS RAID solution is no exception.”

“The mid-size storage market requires performance and scalability at a competitive price,” said Dave Reinsel, program director, Storage Research, IDC. “Lower cost storage solutions leveraging SAS building blocks, such as Xyratex’s latest SAS RAID solution, with tiered storage, offers an increasingly attractive option for OEM storage providers.”

“OEMs and Solution Integrators have long considered Xyratex a trusted source for high-performance, high-quality, customizable storage building blocks. The introduction of our newest SAS/SATA RAID solution, the E5402E, underscores our commitment to continue delivering on this reputation,” said Lisa Hart, vice president of marketing for Xyratex. “The release of the E5402E system also reflects Xyratex’s commitment to the delivery of high-performance SAS connectivity technology. Xyratex strongly believes we will see accelerated adoption of SAS as organizations increasingly seek out tiered storage solutions that can support a wide variety of software applications.”

The E5402E solution also features Xyratex’s StorViewT, an easy-to-use, web-based management tool that gives network administrators clear visibility and ultimate control over the storage system. Xyratex’s entire family of 5000 series 4G RAID controllers feature several high-availability options, including RAID 6 and Snapshot, as well as the SNIA SMI-S 1.1 certified standard interoperability configuration interface. This interface enables Xyratex RAID controllers to be managed by other management tools that support SMI-S. This industry standard encompasses the E5402E as well as the F5402E, which remains the industry’s first fully available storage system to offer an integrated 4Gb RAID system with FC connectivity and SAS/SATA drives.

Xyratex will display all of its latest SAS storage enclosures at SNW Fall in booth G11. Live product demonstrations include the new E5402E, SAS-SAS/SATA RAID, an enhanced F5402E 4Gb FC-SAS/SATA RAID and the RS-1603-E3-EBD SAS EBOD. The demonstrations will also feature Xyratex’s unique StorView(TM) system configuration and management software.
