ADEL and TI Ramp up New Fingerprint Identification Processor

Shenzhen IDEAL Microelectronics Co. Ltd. (ADEL) and Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced that their jointly developed fingerprint identification processor ramped to volume production. The new fingerprint identification processor is based on TI’s high performance TMS320C5000(TM) digital signal processor (DSP) platform, and includes ADEL intellectual property (IP) owned fingerprint identification technology. The value of ADEL’s industry proven processor has been confirmed by customers in trial production and field application before entering volume production.

Featuring optimized upgrading schemes, multiple interfaces and 130nm process technology, the ready-for-production fingerprint identification processor is a low-power very large scale integration (VLSI). Based on TI’s performance scaling C5000(TM) DSP, ultra-low power MSP430 MCU and analog power IC, it is an ideal solution for door locks, safes, fingerprint keyboards, fingerprint USB drivers, household node switches and machine tool switches. The successful development of the processor marks a significant milestone that fingerprint recognition technology will penetrate to a wide range of applications.

“DSP has long been a vital component in fingerprint recognition applications and TI has played an important role in advancing the technology to the next level,” says Eldon Teng, director of business development, TI Asia. “As a leader in fingerprint identification technology in China, ADEL has set remarkable achievements in recent years. We are pleased to have successfully supported ADEL to introduce the fingerprint identification processor. The partnership between ADEL’s innovative fingerprint recognition technology and TI’s industry-leading DSP and analog technology will bring forth the development of a larger number of fingerprint recognition applications, enabling consumers a more secured and safe environment.”

“We are excited about the volume production of the fingerprint recognition processor with ADEL’s own IP,” said Min Yu, president of ADEL. “This is a symbolic move in the fingerprint recognition market. The combination of ADEL’s IP and TI’s high-performance DSP will pave the way for more innovative fingerprint recognition applications. ADEL will soon launch a series of new applications based on the fingerprint recognition processor introduced today and work on developing a broader market.”

ADEL’s customer said, “The industry has eagerly awaited an advanced fingerprint recognition processor such as this one from ADEL and TI in volume production. This is definitely a breakthrough for low-cost embedded fingerprint recognition applications. This success will also help us obtain market leadership as well as accelerate the development of more advanced and innovative applications.”
