Xilinx ISE 8.2i Includes Support for World’s Largest 65nm FPGA

Xilinx today announced immediate availability of a downloadable extension to the 8.2i Integrated Software Environment (ISE(TM)) Foundation tool suite allowing access to the Virtex(TM)-5 LX330 FPGA, the industry’s largest 65nm FPGA. ISE Foundation 8.2i delivers a unique, integrated timing closure environment and new productivity-enhancing features to fully exploit the performance and power advantages of Virtex-5 devices, delivering a 30 percent performance advantage over previous generation FPGAs. ISE 8.2i provides an implementation environment optimized to leverage the superior routing architecture of the Virtex-5 family including its enhanced diagonal routing which supports block- to-block connectivity with minimal hops.

TI Develops World’s Lowest Cost Floating-Point DSP

Expanding on the industry’s largest portfolio of digital signal processors (DSPs), Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced the industry’s lowest cost floating-point DSP, the TMS320C6720 DSP, designed for cost-sensitive applications, such as musical instruments, medical, biometrics, radio broadcasting, audio conferencing, instrumentation and industrial applications. TI floating-point DSPs, including the C6720 DSP priced at $5.75 (10KU), are based on the TMS320C67x(TM) DSP generation.

ST Unveils ARM7 Microcontrollers with Full-spec Operation at 3.3V, 5V

STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM) has extended its popular STR7 range of 32-bit microcontrollers based on the ARM7TDMI-S(TM) core with the introduction of the super-integrated STR750F family. The first general-purpose ARM7 Flash microcontrollers to support full-spec operation at both 3.3V and 5V, the new family delivers 54 MIPS (at 60MHz) performance while providing outstanding low power modes down to 12 micro A in STOP or 10 micro A in STANDBY modes, making it ideal for battery-operated applications. The ability to operate from either 3.3V or 5V gives maximum flexibility in electrically noisy environments without additional costs.
