OMRON Acquires NHK Spring's Optical Communications Components Business

OMRON Corporation (TSE: 6645, US: OMRNY),a global leader in automation, sensing and control technologies, announced today that it has reached a preliminary agreement with NHK Spring Co., Ltd. to acquire NHK Spring's FTTH(1) optical coupler business. NHK Spring's optical coupler business includes the component micro-fabrication technologies and film deposition technologies required to produce high-performance quartz optical waveguides(2), as well as the development, manufacture, and sale of optical coupler modules(3) that incorporate these optical waveguides. NHK Spring is a top supplier of optical couplers in North America, with total sales of 1.3 billion yen in fiscal 2005. OMRON, as the first company in the world to commercialize an optical coupler module incorporating proprietary stacked polymer optical waveguide technology(4), expects to enjoy substantial synergies through this acquisition.

L-3 Supports Air Force Space Telemetry, Tracking and Control Network

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Telemetry-West (L-3 Telemetry-West) division has been awarded a $9.9 million contract by the U.S. Air Force to provide the next-generation, crypto-modernization-compliant encryptor and decryptor for satellite telemetry, tracking and control (TT&C). This program will include two configurations - an embeddable solution and a standalone end cryptographic unit (ECU). L-3 Telemetry-West has partnered with L-3's Communication Systems-East (L-3 CS-East) division for this key national security initiative.
