DVS Digital Video Systems Presents Spycer Data Manager

Posted by EDA Geek News Staff in Other on Wednesday, August 30, 2006

DVS will present its innovative data manager Spycer(TM) at booth 7.421. Unveiled in Las Vegas at NAB 2006, IBC visitors will also now be able to see Spycer(TM) in action. The intelligent application allows the postproduction business to handle their massive amounts of data more easily and at the same time keep control over the corresponding metadata.

Spycer(TM) can fulfill a wide range of different operations. In contrast to conventional content management systems that only offer a web interface on multiple clients, Spycer(TM) operates as an active software on each individual workstation. Spycer(TM) detects new clips automatically and extracts all the available metadata. Moreover, it is possible to browse high-resolution image sequences (4K) locally and via the network. In addition to that, the user has useful tools for the daily management of data, e.g. renaming of image sequences, high-speed copying and defragmentation of clips.

This innovative data management requires no central server or central storage system. Every workstation acts as a mini server itself, together forming the SpycerNet, a scalable content management nework. Thanks to Spycer(TM) distributed content management becomes a reality.

The software will be an integral part of the finishing solution CLIPSTER(R) 2.2 and the digital disk recorders Pronto2K.2 and ProntoHD.2. After the IBC, Spycer(TM) will be available in the latest software versions of these systems. The stand-alone version of Spycer(TM) application runs on commercial computers, too, not requiring DVS hardware. Additionally, the software meets the demands of SAN technology by providing an overview of fragmented image sequences and enabling high-speed copying processes. With the most recent version of DVS-SAN, DVS provides licenses for Spycer(TM).

Konstantin Schinas, Product Manager at DVS: "Spycer effortlessly 'spies' out the data and finds it, if necessary, on hundreds of terabytes of storage without any manual search. Then, the user can edit the metadata as required. Moreover, Spycer offers support for the customer's datacentric workflow: the integrated de-fragementer optimizes the image sequences on the storage."

The software and hardware manufacturer DVS is based in Hanover, Germany and Los Angeles, USA and has achieved sustained success in 2006. In addition to its award-winning DI workstation CLIPSTER(R) DVS has presented another milestone in its software development: at NAB 2006 DVS unveiled the innovative data manager Spycer(TM). In the same year a new line of disk recorders came to market: Pronto2K.2 and ProntoHD.2 enable real-time multi-resolution capture and play-out combined with full conforming. The company has a large OEM customer base, too: numerous leaders in the industry integrate DVS' powerful video I/O boards into their own products. Moreover, DVS has teamed up with ARRI, Kodak, Imagica, The Mill and Midnight Transfer.
